NHL Latest – Pittsburgh Penguins win 5-2 against a strong Florida Panthers side

The Pittsburgh Penguins hosting the Florida Panthers was the second game of Wednesday. The match was played at the Consol Energy Centre with 18,000 fans attending the match. The game was expected to be an evenly matched encounter.
However, the home side made a very one sided affair of it and won the match 5-2. This was the 503rd game of the regular season with the Florida Panther playing the 32nd game of the season while the Pittsburgh Penguins played their 35th
game.
Both teams made a great start to the match offensively. Attacks were seen every now and then and it was only a matter of time before we saw our first goal. It didn’t take long as the home team backed by the home fans managed to
get into the lead. The goal that put them ahead was scored by Mark Letestu from decent flick shot.
The Panthers also came up with strong attacks. This resulted in them scoring in the 3rd minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Stephen Weiss from a well placed strike.
After losing the lead, the home team pushed ahead. The Pittsburgh Penguins were content on getting back into the lead which could be seen from the urgency in their game. The home team successfully scored in the 8th minute
to get into the lead once again. The goal was scored by Captain Sidney Crosby.
A few minutes later, the Penguins scored again in the 11th minute through Matt Cooke. Though the home team had many more chances, they didn’t score and the score was 3-1 in favour of the Penguins at the end of the first
period. During the period, Panthers made 8 goal attempts while the Penguins made 17.
The 2nd period of the match saw the Penguins starting off strongly. The home team piled on attack after attack.
Confidence and momentum were with the Penguins. They used this to their advantage and scored once again in the 7th minute to bag the only goal of the period. The goal was scored by Ben Lovejoy.
The Florida Panthers dominated the remaining half of the period but they too couldn’t score as the period ended with the Penguins leading 4-1. During the 20 minutes of play, Florida Panther made 13 goal attempts while the Penguins
made 5.
The final period was again an offensive battle that saw the Panthers scoring first in the 17th minute to trail by two goals. The goal was scored by Bryan McCabe from a powerful strike. However, Pittsburgh sealed the
match with a goal in the 20th minute through Pascal Dupuis.
The Penguins won the match 5-2 in the end and made 12 goal attempts in the final period while the Florida Panthers made 15. Ben Lovejoy was named the star selection of the match scoring from his only goal attempt.
