The final game of Tuesday saw the San Jose Sharks play host to the Edmonton Oilers. The match was played at the HP Pavilion with around 18,000 fans coming to witness the match. This was the 501st game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series.
The match was a very tough and interesting battle that saw the San Jose Sharks managing to win the match 2-1.
The match started slowly for both the teams. The defence was on top for both teams right from the start of the match. The attacking players were not allowed to enter the area near the goal.
The chances that came the teams’ way were rare and very difficult. Both the teams worked hard to get past the defence but the wall-like defence maintained by the both sides resulted in no goals being scored in the opening period of the match.
The period ended with the scores deadlocked on 0-0. During the course of the period, both teams made 5 goal attempts.
After a strong start to the 2nd period, the Edmonton Oilers defence saw very strong attacks from the Sharks offence. The Sharks attacking players were very sharp in the 2nd period and scored in the 14th minute to break the
deadlock and take the lead.
The goal was scored by Logan Couture from a brilliant long-range shot that went flying into the back of the net. The Sharks continued to press on in search of another goal. The Edmonton Oilers defence crumbled in front of the very strong attacks made by
the Sharks.
The Sharks on the other hand scored once again in the 17th minute to double their lead. The goal was scored by Dan Boyle from a decent flick shot that was very well placed.
The period saw the San Jose Sharks make several shots as the period neared its end but no further goals were scored as the period ended with the Sharks leading 2-0. During the course of 20 minutes of play, San Jose Sharks made 17 goal attempts while the
Edmonton Oilers made 9 goal attempts.
San Jose Sharks made a strong start to the final period once again but they failed to score. The away side on the other hand scored late in the period in the 19th minute through Dustin Penner to restore some pride.
The period and the match ended with the San Jose Sharks winning the match 2-1. During the course of the match, the San Jose Sharks made 30 goal attempts while the Edmonton Oilers made 27 goal attempts. Logan Couture was declared the star selection of the
match.
