NHL Latest – Tampa Bay Lightning win 5-1 against the Carolina Hurricanes

The 492nd game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series saw the Tampa Bay Lightning play host to the Carolina Hurricanes. The match was played at the St. Pete Times Forum this Monday in front of 17,000 fans. This was the 32nd game
of the season for the Carolina Hurricanes while the Tampa Bay Lightning played the 33rd game of the season. During the course of the match Steven Stamkos scored his 100th goal in NHL as the Tampa Bay Lightning won the match 5-1.
Tampa Bay Lightning was cheered by the home fans  right from the word go. The crowd came in numbers to support their home team and proved just how much it matters in games like these. The confidence and momentum, hence was in favour of the Tampa Bay Lightning
which resulted in the home team scoring in the 6th minute to take the lead of the match.
The goal was scored by Dominic Moore from a brilliant backhand shot. After the goal, both teams continued with their strong attacks. As a result, the Hurricanes successfully leveled the score with a goal in the 16th minute. The goal was scored
by Sergei Samsonov from a decent flick shot.
Tampa Bay Lightning was determined to take the lead before the break and they did just that with a goal right at the death with just one second remaining. The goal was scored by Martin St Louis’s powerful strike.
During the course of the first period 11 goal attempts were made by each team with Tampa Bay leading 2-1.
The 2nd period saw the Tampa Bay Lightning come up with a dominating performance as they scored through Brett Clark in the 15th minute to take the score to 3-1. They continued to press on and put pressure on the opposing team and as
a result, scored once again in the 17th minute through Steven Stamkos who bagged the 100th goal of his career and the 26th of the season. The home team sealed the match with the final goal of the period scored by Sean Bergenheim from
a tip in shot.
The second period ended with the Tampa Bay Lightning leading 5-1 as they made 18 goal attempts while the Hurricanes were restricted to just 2 goal attempts in this period.
The final period of the match was goalless but there were times when it looked as if more goals were on the way. However, the match ended with the Tampa Bay Lightning winning the match 5-1 and they made 5 goal attempts in the final period while the Carolina
Hurricanes made 9 goal attempts.
