NHL Latest – Vancouver Canucks retain top spot in the league extending lead to 2 points winning 3-1 against Calgary Flames

The current league leaders, Vancouver Canucks played host to Calgary Flames this Wednesday at the Rogers Arena. There were around 19,000 fans that came in support of the teams to witness the 595th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series.
Roberto Luongo, goal keeper of the Vancouver Canucks displayed some excellent goal tending abilities and made 43 saves in the match. He was named the star selection of the match as the Vancouver Canucks emerged as 3-1 winners of the match.
Vancouver Canucks made a great start to the match. They came up with strong passing and shooting abilities. Combining very well together, they got past the opposing team’s defence. The hard work put in by the Canucks was rewarded in the 2nd minute
as they scored through Ryan Kesler from a tip in shot to take the lead.  
Calgary Flames also came up with strong attacks and scoring chances after the goal. They too could have scored but the chances came and went but they couldn’t find the back of the net.
Vancouver Canucks were very strong on the attacks particular when they took their time to construct attacks. Their determination paid off once again as they scored through Kevin Bieksa to double the lead. There were a few more goal attempts as the period
came to the end but no goals were scored.
The period ended with Vancouver Canucks leading 2-0. During the 20 minutes of play Vancouver Canucks made 7 goal attempts while Calgary Flames made 12 goal attempts.
Vancouver Canucks made a decent start to the second period continuing with the form which they had in the first period. They made a few attacks of which one proved to be productive in the 10th minute. As a result of this, the Vancouver Canucks
took the score to 3-0 with the goal scored by Daniel Sedin.
Calgary Flames totally dominated rest of the period not only in offence but also defence. Vancouver Canucks were restricted to almost nothing. Despite the several chances that Calgary Flames created, they failed to capitalize from them and the period ended
with Canucks leading 3-0.
During the course of the period, Vancouver Canucks made just 5 goal attempts while Calgary Flames made 14 goal attempts.
Vancouver had the early momentum in the final period which saw them making goal attempts regularly but the attacks they made were almost half hearted as they were confident for a win. However, Calgary Flames became very strong with the passage of time.
They managed to score a consolation goal in the final minute scoring through Tim Jackman. The period and the match ended with Vancouver Canucks winning 3-1. During the course of the final period, Vancouver made 9 goal attempts while Calgary Flames made 18
goal attempts.
