Vancouver Canucks win 2-1 against the Edmonton Oilers
The 2nd game of Sunday saw the Edmonton Oilers play host to the Vancouver Canucks. The match was played at the Rexall Place with around 17,000 fans coming to attend the match. The match was expected to be a very tight
and tough encounter that saw the Vancouver Canucks emerge as the winners at the end of the 439th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. The home team played the 29th game of the season while the Vancouver Canucks played the 28th
game of the campaign.
The away side started off stronger of the two teams and displayed some excellent skills on the ice. Not only this, but the Canucks also dominated possession for most of the period. The away side was content not letting the Oilers
settle. They were successful in doing so and came up with some scoring opportunities as well.
The away side successfully scored in the 7th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Alexandre Burrows from a flick shot. The Canucks continued to pile on the pressure on the home team but failed to score any
further goals. The Oilers also made a few goal attempts at the end of the period but couldn’t score.
The period ended with the Canucks leading 1-0 as they made 9 goal attempts in the period while the Edmonton Oilers made 4.
The 2nd period was also dominated by the Canucks from the start as they came up with pin point passing that enabled them to get past the Edmonton Oilers strong defence. The home team was very strong on the defence but
the Canucks simply outplayed them.
The away side managed to score in the 7th minute to double the lead. The goal was scored by Henrik Sedin from a well placed flick shot. The period saw the away side dominate possession but they couldn’t benefit from
it.
The Edmonton Oilers came out stronger than the previous period but once again couldn’t score. The home fans urged them to go ahead and score but the attacks were not as strong. It seemed they lacked the confidence ending without
a score.
The period ended with the Vancouver Canucks leading 2-0.
The final period of the match saw the home team finally scoring even though the Canucks had ample space and chances to score, they didn’t.
The Edmonton Oilers scored in the 20th minute but it was a little too late. The goal was scored by Jordan Eberle from a quick fired shot. The match ended with the Vancouver Canucks winning 2-1.
