NHL Latest – Vancouver Canucks win 3-1 against the St. Louis Blues

St. Louis Blues hosted the Vancouver Canucks as part of the 493rd game of the Compuware NHL Premiere Series. The match was expected to be a very tight battle and certainly was as it saw the Vancouver Canucks successfully overpowering the St. Louis
Blues to win the match 3-1. This was the 31st game of the season for the Vancouver Canucks while the St. Louis Blues played their 32nd.
Vancouver Canucks started the match stronger of the two teams. They came up with a very strong and talented offence that dominated the play. Added to this was the excellent passing of the side that enabled them to get into open positions regularly. The home
team also had scoring opportunities during the course of the period but they failed to convert any of the chances into goals.
Neither of the teams was able to score at the end of the first period. During the 20 minutes of play, St. Louis Blues made 3 goal attempts while the Vancouver Canucks made 12 goal attempts but still couldn’t score.
Vancouver Canucks continued with the dominating performance in the 2nd period as well. They attacked right from the start and their positive attitude was rewarded as they scored in the 8th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored
by Aaron Volpatti from a well placed shot.
Pressing on further, the away side successfully doubled the lead with another goal in the 10th minute. The goal was scored by Ryan Kesler from a decent shot. The score at the time was 2-0 in favour of the Canucks.
The St. Louis Blues knew that if they wanted to have any chance of a comeback, they had to score. They did just that, bagging a goal in the 18th minute through Alexander Steen’s spectacular backhand shot. This cut the lead to just 1 goal as the
period ended with the Canucks leading 2-1. During the second period Vancouver Canucks made 8 goal attempts while the St. Louis Blues made 7 goal attempts.
The final 20 minutes of the match saw the away sides making 9 goal attempts while the St. Louis made 6 goal attempts. However, it was the Vancouver Canucks who sealed the match with a goal in the 19th minute through Jeff Tambellini as Canucks
won the match 3-1.
