NHL: Montreal Canadiens win 5-4 against the Calgary Flames
Montreal Canadiens played host to the Calgary Flames on Monday. This was the 680th
game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. The match took at the Centre Bell with around 21,000 fans coming to witness the match.
The match was tough with both teams battling out hard and leveling the scores at the end of the regulation time but Montreal Canadiens managed to notch up a win, scoring once again in the overtime and winning 5-4. P.K Subban, defenceman of the Montreal Canadiens
was named the star selection of the match for his goal, an assist and excellent performance in defence.
Montreal Canadiens made a brilliant start to the match, as they not only dominated the possession, but constantly made goal attempts. They worked hard right from the start to get past the opposing defence and kept on knocking the door until finally they
managed to score in the 5th minute through a brilliant goal scored by Lars Eller from a well placed flick shot.
Both teams made attacks after the goal but it was Montreal Canadiens who scored once again in the 12th minute to double their lead. The goal was scored by Michael Cammarelli from a decent strike. The goals scored during the period didn’t prohibit
the teams to attacks so they continued to attack but no further goals were scored.
The period ended with the Montreal Canadiens leading 2-0 at the end of the period as they made 12 goal attempts while the Calgary Flames made 10 goal attempts.
The second period saw the Montreal Canadiens continuing on the dominating roads. They not only got past the opposing defence, but also bombarded regular shots on goal. The home team with the backing of the home fans managed to scored through Andrei Kostitsyn
in the 4th minute to take the score to 3-0 in favour of the Montreal Canadiens.
A few minutes later, Montreal Canadiens looked to seal the match as they scored through Jeff Halpern in the 7th minute. After this goal, Calgary Flames stepped up their game and started to come across scoring chances. The away team opened their
account with the goal scored by Rene Bourque in the 4th minute.
Calgary Flames continued to attack and successfully scored through Captain Jarome Iginla to trail by 2-4 as the period ended. During the course of the period both teams made 10 goal attempts.
The final period saw Calgary Flames turning out to be the more productive of the two sides as they managed to score twice and level the score at the end of the regulation time. Both goals came in quick succession with the first scored by Ales Kotalik and
the second scored by Alex Tanguay respectively.
The scores were level after this and despite numerous goal attempts no further goals were scored as the period and match ended with the scores level on 4-4.
Resultantly, the match went into overtime where Montreal Canadiens scored through P.K Subban to win the match 5-4.
