NHL Player Profiles for the 2011-2012 Season: Philadelphia Flyers Jaromir Jagr
Probably the most anticipated comeback into the National Hockey League (NHL) during the 2011 offseason was that of legendary player, Jaromir Jagr, who decided to return to the North American league after spending three seasons overseas.
Jagr signed on with Philadelphia Flyers during the offseason to a one-year, $3.3 million contract, after announcing his comeback which had teams throughout the league scrambling in order to get their hands on the veteran right winger.
Selected as the fifth overall pick during round-one of the 1990 NHL Entry Draft by Pittsburgh Penguins, the 39-year-old left the league after playing his final season in 2007-2008 with New York Rangers.
His exit was regarded as a final retirement, which was considered much earlier than expected after having a disappointing season of 71 points (25 goals, 46 assists), a record which might seem big for other players but was minimum for the Kladno, Czech Republic
native.
Playing three seasons with various clubs in the Russian Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), Jagr decided that a comeback in the NHL would be best for the final years of his career as a professional hockey player, which is not surprising after having spent nearly
18 years here.
By far, Jaromir Jagr boasts one of the best records the league has ever seen with 1,281 games played while having scored 1,606 points (648 goals, 958 assists) and an accumulated plus-minus rating of 276.
This season, fans were awaiting his inaugural goal, which he managed to get in his eighth game against Toronto Maple Leafs, not one but two for a total of seven points (2 goals 5 assists) so far.
Philadelphia had their last chance at the Stanley Cup back in 2010 against Chicago Blackhawks which they lost in a close seven-game series. Thirsty for the most coveted prize in the hockey world, Philadelphia Flyers are on their way to getting another chance
and with a number of adjustments to their line-up throughout the offseason including acquiring Jaromir Jagr, they hope that in the end it will be enough to take them there.
The Flyers line-up still has a long way to go due to the season just taking off, but if they want to secure a strong position for later on, thinking about winning match after match is the best way to ensure them that.
