NHL Player Profiles for the 2011-2012 regular season: Pittsburgh Penguins Sidney Crosby
The most anticipated return of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season is without a doubt that of Pittsburgh Penguins captain, Sidney Crosby, who has been out of the game with a severe concussion for nearly a year now.
Drafted as the first overall draft pick during round-one of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by Pittsburgh Penguins, Crosby has become widely known as the best player in the league at the moment and can easily be compared to the ice hockey world greats like Wayne
Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and many others.
Having been cleared for contact recently, Crosby continues to practice with his original draft team but is still unsure of when his comeback might be possible.
It is easily observable that Pittsburgh Penguins are suffering without their superstar forward and were eliminated much earlier during the 2011 NHL Playoffs than if they had Crosby on the team guiding them.
When Crosby plays a full season, he can easily register 100 plus points. His career high is a monumental, 120 point (36 goals, 48 assists) record, which certainly makes him the frontrunner in the league.
The 24-year-old went out with a concussion earlier in January of 2011 after back-to-back hits on the head in separate matchups which were termed season ending, but it was at first expected that he would be out for this long. Some even fear it might be a
career ending injury but rest assured, Doctors have said that he will make a comeback soon.
“He will”, Pittsburgh forward, Pascal Dupuis said when asked whether he thinks Crosby will ever return to the game or not. “Just because he’s that kind of person. Talent doesn’t mean anything when you’re Sidney Crosby. It’s all about work ethic, all about
dedication to the game. It’s all about wanting it, and he’s the kind of person that … I’m not worried at all”.
When Crosby returns, which will be hopefully sooner than later, Pittsburgh will certainly be given a monumental boost in regards of performance, which just might be the enhancement they need to start winning again and make it deep into the playoffs.
Having won a Stanley Cup championship three seasons into his career in the NHL, Sidney Crosby is truly it is fullest sense, a champion.
