I am here in Mississauga, Ontario in the big Central Library downtown. I was here half an hour ago as well when I saw Matt Stajan of Toronto walk past me no more than 15 feet away!!! What do you say? have you seen hockey players in unexpected places?

  1. I saw Darren McCarty in a bar in Detroit once.  I bought him a shot of Jack.

  2. Just autograph sessions.

I have a friend who was dating a girl from Edmonton a while back and he saw Jarome Iginla in the airport with some girl.

    GO WINGS!

  3. i haven't but some of my relatives have:

one of my uncles is the manager (something like that) of a chain of restaurants in a region (he's pretty high up) and Pittsburgh players will commonly do autograph signings at his place

an uncle on the other side of the family met Gonchar and Malkin at a bar.  He told them they were doing great and to bring home stanley.  Malkin just smiled and Gonchar said thanks.

my cousins groom (whats the word for future husband?  oh well) met Ryan Malone, also in a bar.  Malone was with friends.  apparantly they are pretty rowdy.

  4. yes, i have seen rene bourque and dustin byfuglien at a chicago cubs game

and i believe i saw zetterberg in aspen colorado. im pretty sure that was him, i was 5 at the time, but if it wasnt him, it was some other nhl player

  5. Nah only at autograph signings.

But I have seen a load of MLB players.

  6. I have only seen them at events, but I would probably just stare at whoever it was. If I was with someone I would tell them, and try to resist asking the player for an autograph and picture.

  7. Seen too many to list. But it is still a neat thing to meet a player. That doesn't change no matter how old you get

  8. Missussauga?!?!? hey i was in Mississauga today how come i never saw him! anyways what did you say to him? did you say anything? lol i wanna know everything!

  9. No only at autograph sessions.

  10. Unfortunately, no. I've only seen players at autograph sessions. Though I did swear to see Chris Simms at the beach with his girlfriend!

  11. I saw Chris Pronger in Quebec City at a restaurant three summers ago with some friends.  I didn't say anything to him though.

  12. I saw brian lawton once. He was outside walmart begging for change.

  13. I wouldn't say I've ever seen a hockey player anywhere, but once I was in the Monterey Aquarium in Monterey, California, and Toby from "The Office" asked me what something was. I didn't know it was Toby at the time (poor lighting), but had I known any better I would have asked him for a signature or something.

  14. I saw Kirk Maltby at a Blockbuster. I also saw Tomas Holmstrom pull out of Nick Lidstrom's subdivision (hes a friend of my parents) in his BMW. I have met most of the Swedes on the Wings as well from hanging out at Nick Lidstrom's house.

  15. David Lemanowicz (former Panthers draft pick and still a goalie in the Central Hockey League) at Stripes (kinda like 7-11 here in Texas)

ex-NHLer Steve Dykstra (Sabres, Oilers, Penguins, Whalers) has played hockey with us several times. He's a super nice guy, very approachable.

Maxime Mathieu, who's gonna try out for the Blue Jackets, scrimmaged with us this morning. I stopped him 5 out of 8 shots - he's got insane dekes from within 10 feet. Soviet if you wanna give Noorona and LeClaire some advice, he nearly always shoots high stick side.

though I knew it'd happen (a friend of mine spilled the beans the night before) getting to play hockey with Bobby Clarke was a thrill, even though I am not a Flyers fan.

while was working at a memorabilia store in California a few years ago, Cory Stillman came in and bought a few pictures.

a rink I used to play at in Oakland, California was managed by former NHL and WHA star Andre Lacroix.

also Everett Sanipass, a Mic'macq Indian from the province (not city in New Jersey lol) of New Brunswick, is a good friend.

(i've also met some famous athletes in other sports, but since this is the hockey section I will stop here)

just wanted to add this for Ripper, Soviet + the other Detroit fans: Darren McCarthy is gonna be doing a hockey camp down here next month

  16. just say something like "hey aren't you matt stajan?" if you dont like him then pretend to say like "you are a good hockey player" or somethin

  17. I saw Mike Robitaille (former Sabre/Canuck from back in the day) in a Starbucks in Williamsville a few weeks ago. It was a really odd feeling to see him out being a normal human being instead of sitting behind a desk on the Sabres post-game show!

  18. well i see phillpe boucher of the dallas stars at hockey rinks i play at

  19. Mississauga! I used to live there until I moved to Brampton. He's from Mississauga so it's not that unusual. Dale Mitchell, the Leafs third round pick of 2007 went to the same school as me when I used to live in Mississauga.

  20. Of course, they are regular people. In fact, you have a better chance of talking to an NHL'er because of there class and humbleness. (except for Billy Smith)

I've met over a 100 and it's always been a thrill and i get excited every time even in my 30's

    Fortunate and lucky!

  21. You should have told him you were a fan and asked him for his autograph.

  22. Rene Bourque and Dustin Byfuglien at a baseball game, my dad has seen a couple in a bathroom somewhere. They're just normal people its not like its unusual to see them they have a life too. It's neat to see them
