NHL Players getting Bullied according to Washington Capitals Troy Brouwer -NHL Lockout Update
Players all around the National Hockey League (NHL) have been pretty vocal ever since the lockout came into play on September 15, 2012, but Washington Capitals’ Troy Brouwer is coming out with a different perspective.
According to him, the NHL Players’ Association is just getting battered in the negotiation process and has, overtime, become more lenient to letting go of those things that they believed in while the league is taking advantage of that weakness. For him,
it is as if the players are being bullied around and cannot stand up for their rights.
CSNWashington.com was talking to the veteran right winger and assistant player representative, who was not surprised at all on how things have worked out up until now, including the Winter Classic being cancelled out like it was no big deal.
“Not surprised. We’ve known for a long time this was one of the ways the owners would try to put all the pressure on the players. It’s understandable. You have to promote the game and make sure the sponsors are involved in the game. The time line of it?
We still feel they called it off a little bit early. But that’s their decision and it doesn’t come as much of a surprise to the players.”
Owners are still thrashing players in terms of not willing to compromise on any of their positions, while the labour union has been forced to work out alternative plans and ways to interest the league into finally considering what they have to say.
He also added that it was most of the owners who are in favour of locking the players out so that they can maximise on profits, while at the same time, cutting the share of the players in team revenue. It is a tough situation at the moment since there is
no clear cut way both sides are willing to use and only time will be the ultimate decider to what happens.
Fans are crossing their fingers, that is for sure.
Brouwer is a 27-year-old native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks as the 214th overall back in 2004. Last season, he had 33 points (18 goals, 15 assists) in 82 games played.
