NHL Premiere Series Updates – Minnesota Wild win 3-1 against Boston Bruins
The 597th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was hosted by the Boston Bruins as they went up against Minnesota Wild at the TD Garden. This was the first match of Thursday and was witnessed by around 18,000 fans. The match was evenly
poised and during the game both teams had their share of chances to score, but Minnesota Wild proved be more productive and emerge as the winners of the match, with the score-board reading 3-1 in their favor. Martin Havlat of Minnesota was named the star selection
of the match as he bagged one goal.
Both teams made a strong start to the match. Passing was loose early on but with the passage of time both teams started to develop some smooth plays. Plenty of shots on the goal were witnessed, but they just went wide or the goal keepers came up with decent
saves.
Despite numerous goal attempts, no goals were scored in the first period. The score at the end of the first 20 minutes was 0-0 with Minnesota Wild making 9 goal attempts and Boston Bruins making 13 goal attempts.
Minnesota Wild started the second period on a high and began creating chances right from the start. They kept managing to get past the Boston defence and it was only a matter of time before they scored. Finally, with the combination of brilliant finishing
the superb movement, Minnesota successfully scored in the 5th minute, through Martin Havlat’s backhand shot, and took the lead.
Minnesota Wild continued to pile pressure on the home team, but this backfired as they were often caught on the counter attack. Steve Kampher scored for Boston in the 11th minute in another counter attack to level the scores.
Minnesota continued to attack and were determined to score once again to take the lead. Again, both teams got several scoring chances but failed to capitalize and the period ended with the scores level on 1-1. During the course of the period Minnesota Wild
made 16 goal attempts while Boston Bruins made 10 goal attempts.
The final period saw things go the other way around. It was the Boston Bruins who kept knocking down doors, but due to all their men being involved in attacks, they were found off guard.
Minnesota Wild was successful in scoring through Cal Cutterbuck in the 3rd minute to take the lead once again. There were many more chances in the period but none of the goal attempts were successful.
However, Minnesota Wild scored through Mikko Koivu from a simple tip in shot to seal the match in the 18th minute. The period and the match ended with no further goals as Minnesota Wild won the match 3-1. During the course of the final 20 minutes,
Minnesota Wild made 9 goal attempts while Boston made 13 goal attempts.
