NHL Recap: Boston Bruins defeat the New York Islanders 6-3
The Boston Bruins defeated the New York Islanders 6-3 in an exciting game at the Nassau Coliseum on Thursday. As expected, the Bruins dominated the proceedings, giving very little chances to the Islanders. Making a great start to the game, the Bruins scored
three goals in each of the first two periods, as the Islanders could only manage three goals. The Bruins cruised to an easy victory. David Krejci of the Bruins was named the star selection of the game for his brilliant goal and an assist.
The Bruins were definitely the stronger of the two teams at the start of the proceedings. They displayed some excellent passing and shooting abilities which saw them coming across numerous scoring chances. The Bruins scored in just the second minute through
Blake Wheeler from a superb back-hand shot to get into the lead.
The Islanders came up with a few shots on goal, but it was the Bruins who were in control, as they managed to score again. The goal was scored by Mark Recchi from a brilliant tip in shot in the eighth minute. The Islanders were not given any space to work,
as they were unable to make anything happen during the first 20 minutes of play.
The Bruins took the score to 3-0 with another goal half\-way past in the period through Gregory Campbell’s tip in shot. There were several more goal attempts made by the Bruins as the period neared its end. No further goals were scored as the period ended
with the Bruins leading 3-0. During the course of the period, the Bruins made 15 goal attempts while the Islanders managed four goal attempts.
The second period started with both teams trying to quickly dominate the offence. The Bruins managed to score again in the very first minute through David Krejci from a decent back-hand strike. The Islanders were able to respond with a goal in the very next
minute scored by John Tavares.
Momentum shifted frequently, which resulted in both teams coming across potential scoring chances every now and then. The Bruins scored through Tyler Seguin’s quick fired shot. The home fans had something to cheer about as the Islanders scored once again
through Josh Bailey from a powerful strike in the sixth minute.
The Bruins wrapped up the period with their final goal by Milan Lucic during the power-play. The period ended with the Bruins leading 6-2. During the period, the Bruins made 12 goal attempts, with the Islanders managed 22 goal attempts.
Both teams made a decent start at the beginning of the final period. There were shots on goal and some decent play making was observed. Despite the numerous scoring chances coming, only one goal was scored by the Islanders from John Tavares. He managed to
score his second goal of the night in the 13th minute from a brilliant tip-in shot. There were no further goals, as the period ended with the Bruins winning 6-3.
The Bruins managed to control the tempo of the game, as the Islanders struggled to adapt. It was an exciting contest, as both teams are trying hard to put up a good performance and carry the winning momentum into the National Hockey League post-season.
