NHL Recap: Calgary Flames embarrass Colorado Avalanche 9-1
The Calgary Flames humiliated the Colorado Avalanche 9-1 in the Pepsi Centre on Monday. The Flames were on the front foot right from the start, as they scored five goals in the first period. The Avalanche managed to score once in the second, as the Flames
scored four more goals in the final period to win the game. The Flames’ Olli Jokinen was named the star selection of the game, with his three assists and a goal.
The Flames stunned the home crowd as they scored in the very first minute to get into the lead. The goal was scored by David Moss from a brilliant strike. The Avalanche managed to come up with a few attacks, but unfortunately it was the Flames who scored
once again in the sixth minute through Anton Babchuk from a powerful strike during the power-play to double the lead.
The Avalanche managed to come up with some good plays and it looked as if they would score, but unfortunately for them, it was the Flames who scored once again through Captain Jarome Iginla to take the score to 3-0. In the very next minute, the Flames’ Curtis
Glencross managed to score.
After this, there was nothing much for the Avalanche to do except try to defend their goal to prevent any further embarrassment. Unfortunately, they were unable, do as the Flames wrapped up a dominating performance with the final goal of the period scored
by Ollie Jokinen from a brilliant backhand shot in the 18th minute.
The period ended with the Flames leading 5-0 as they made 13 goal attempts in the period, as the Avalanche managed 7 goal attempts.
The second period started off with both teams attacking and coming up with regular shots on goal. The Avalanche scored the only goal of the period in the 12th minute through Daniel Winnik. There were quite a few more shots on goal, but no further
goals were scored as the period ended with the Flames leading 5-1. During the period, the Flames made 7 goal attempts as the Avalanche managed 9 goal attempts.
The final period was again dominated the by the Flames, as they fired shots on goal and successfully scored in the first minute through Alex Tanguay. Glencross scored in the third minute to take the score to 7-1.
The Flames scored in the 10th and 19th minute by Captain Jarome Iginla and Matt Stajan respectively. The period ended with the Flames making 13 goal attempts while the Avalanche made 7 goal attempts. In the end, the Flames convincingly
beat the Avalanche 9-1.
