NHL Recap: Detroit Red Wings defeat the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-2
The Detroit Red Wings kept up their winning run, as they defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-2 at the St. Pete Times Forum on Thursday. The game was a clash of two of the giants of the National Hockey League. The Red Wings were on top of their game, as they
managed to score twice in each of the three periods. The Lightning could not keep up, as they only scored two goals, handing the victory to the Red Wings. Pavel Datsyuk of the Red Wings was the star selection of the game, as he scored two goals in the game.
Both teams made a decent start to the game, which saw them coming across some decent plays and scoring opportunities. The Red Wings got into the lead scoring early in the seventh minute during the power-play to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Danny
Cleary from a powerful strike. Both teams continued to fire shots on goal and there were several occasions where it looked as if a goal would be scored, unfortunately both teams missed some easy chances.
Datsyuk gave the Red Wings some breathing space, as he scored in the 15th minute from a brilliant back-hand shot to double the lead. The chances kept on coming, but no goals were scored as the period ended with the Red Wings leading 2-0. During
the course of the period the Red Wings made 9 goal attempts, with the Lightning managing 11 attempts.
The second period started off on the same road as the first. There were chances at the start, which were not grabbed by the teams. However, they got better with the passage of time and looked more dangerous on the offence.
It was the Lightning who scored two goals in quick succession to level the scores. Victor Hedman scored through a tip in shot and Steve Downie scored in the 12th and 15th minutes respectively. Both teams kept on piling the pressure.
The next goal was scored by Niklas Kronwall during the power-play, to put the Red Wings in the lead. Justin Abdelkader scored once again in the 18th minute to double the Red Wings lead.
The period saw a few more goal attempts made by both sides, but none found the back of the net. The period ended with the Red Wings leading 4-2 in the end. During the period, the Red Wings made 11 goal attempts, with the Lightning managing 9 attempts.
The final period saw the Lightning dominating in terms of shots on goal, but unfortunately there were unable to find the back of the net. The Red Wings scored in the 12th minute to further extend their lead. The goal was scored by Pavel Datsyuk
from a well placed flick-shot. The Red Wings sealed the game with another goal in the 19th minute scored by Darren Helm.
Shots on goal flew from everywhere on ice by the Lightning, as they made 20 goal attempts during the period. The Lightning could not score a single goal in the final period. The Red Wings made 11 goal attempts in the final period and won the game 6-2 in
the end.
The Red Wings gave the fans something to cheer about, as they played brilliantly against the Lightning. It will be exciting to see how far they are able to carry their winning momentum forward.
