Winnipeg Jets overcome Philadelphia Flyers after shootout, 2-1
Winnipeg Jets, Bryan Little, could not have found any ideal time other than this to score a goal, which got his team a victory in shootout against Philadelphia Flyers, 2-1, in a National Hockey League (NHL) game at the Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The low scoring game ended with 1-1 in the regulation to force overtime, which also went goalless.
In the shootout, Flyers missed their three shots while Jets managed to score only on the last attempt.
Bryan skated through the rink as Flyers’ goalie, Ilya Bryzgalov, he adjusted himself. Bryzgalov saw the charging Bryan coming forward and failed to correctly anticipate his move, which was faked and sent into the net from between the goalie’s pads.
“I saw when [Philadelphia goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov] went down," Little said after the game. "He kind of left his five-hole open, and I just decided just to give a little fake and he might open up again, so it worked."
Jets conceded the first goal of the game when Brayden Schenn scored during a power-play in the first period.
The lead was levelled early in the second period when Chris Thorburn scored his first game of the season.
The rest of the game went goalless, which forced the game to overtime where the only scoring move came from Bryan.
Pittsburgh Penguins rally past Toronto Maple Leafs in shootout, 5-4
Evgeni Malkin scored within the final 10 seconds of regulation and then shined once again to score the only goal of shootout as Pittsburgh Penguin rallied past Toronto Maple Leafs, 5-4, at the CONSOL Energy Center, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Pittsburgh was three goals down in the final period. However, Steve Sullivan, Joe Vitale and Malkin managed a goal each within the last nine minutes to force the game to overtime.
It was a nervous encounter, which could have resulted in either way.
Pittsburgh’ forward, Craig Adams, was delighted over the victory, but was also a bit anxious on the way the team won.
He commented:
"Things are going well for us right now. We're getting a lot of good bounces, and we're feeling good about ourselves in terms of never being out of a game.”
He added that:
“But I don't think we want to play too many games like that."
After the scoreless first period, Mikhail Grabovski scored two goals within five minutes in the second period to give Toronto a healthy lead.
Matt Cooke scored at 16:07 to reduce the deficit.
Toronto scored two within the one minute in the final period to get a three-goal edge.
At 6:18, Tyler Bozak scored a power-play goal, which was ensued by a goal from Clarke MacArthur at 6:37.
However, the final 12 minutes belonged entirely to the Penguins, who scored three goals to end the regulation at 4-4.
The overtime was also goalless and Malkin scored in the shootout to give Penguins the victory.
