The Sharks, with a successful road trip behind them, stepped up their game and managed to score through Joe Pavelski in the 19th minute to get into the lead.
The lead did not last long, as the Capitals successfully scored through Captain Alex Ovechkin in the very next minute to level the scores. The period ended with the scores level on 1-1. During the course of the period Sharks made 6 goal attempts, with the

With the scores level, the stage was all set for an interesting and exciting final period. The Sharks made a great start, as they created chances and fired shots on goal from the early stages of the period. It did not take long, as the Sharks scored in the
fifth minute to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Ryane Clowe from a brilliant back-hand shot.
The Sharks continued with their dominating play and scored once again through Dany Heatley from a tip in shot during the power-play to double their lead. The Capitals managed to bounce back with a goal in the 19th minute, scored by Nicklas Backstorm.
There were no further goals, despite both teams making a few more shot attempts. The Sharks won the closely fought game 3-2, as they made 14 goal attempts in the final period, with the Capitals making 7. The game was exciting, as the Sharks proved once again
