NHL Rookie of the Year: How much does popularity and where the rookies plays has an impact on the voting?

First off: I believe that it should always be that what a rookie does on the ice in the NHL is what should only matter in determining the Rookie of the Year. In fact, I was glad to see that AO won ROTY and he deserved it. If popularity was to count then Sidney would have won it despite not having the season as AO had.

I'm asking this since I noticed alot of people from the start are saying that Steve Stamkos is going to be the ROTY and no one else is going to come close.

Wait a minute!! There are alot of what if's here. What If Stamkos was drafted by the Yotes? What if he wasn't drafted 1st overall? Would you still say he is going to be Rookie of the Year?

Right now since the season hasn't begun yet anyone can make the argument on paper to say that any of the Rookies will by the ROTY. Yet Turris is the least talked about among the Rookies right now. Keep in mind Turris has played in 3 NHL games and even with only 1 NHL point he has proven himself that not only he can play in the NHL

  1. I don't think where they play has much of an impact at all - imo. Kane took it this year and Toews got a nomination and Chicago is not exactly a big hockey city, all we care about is our dumb football team and the cubs, and a few for the white sox. Well anyway, Turris has my vote

  2. Turris is currently the favourite for the award ahead of Stamkos.
