NHL Special Report – Defending Champions Chicago Blackhawks win 3-2 against Ottawa Senators after shootout
The 607th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series saw the Chicago Blackhawks playing host to the Ottawa Senators. The match was played at the United Centre in front of 21,000 fans this Friday. This was the 41st game of the season
for the Ottawa Senators and 43rd game for the defending champions, Chicago Blackhawks. Patrick Kane was named the star selection of the match as he scored a goal that put the home team in the lead.
Chicago Blackhawks made a great start to the match with an attacking mentality. They not only fired shots but also displayed some excellent passing. They came across scoring chances but failed to convert them into goals.
Ottawa Senators also stepped up their game and made several chances from themselves but they too couldn’t score any goals. The constant attacking of both teams resulted in the puck going up and down the pitch.
The period ended with both teams ending on high with the scores level on 0-0. During the course of the first 20 minutes of play, Chicago Blackhawks made 8 goal attempts while Ottawa Senators made 11 goal attempts.
The second period was evenly matched by both teams as again attacks after attacks were made each team. Neither of the team could have been said to be on top, neither of the team dominated.
Ottawa Senators with their first attack of the period successfully broke the deadlock. They goal was scored by Captain, Daniel Alfredsson from a powerful strike in the first minute. The home team wasn’t far behind in terms of attacking.
With the strong pieces of play they developed added to the backing of home crowd resulted in Chicago Blackhawks scoring through Patrick Sharp to level the scores. Both teams continued the hard fought contest till the very end but without any further goals.
The period ended with the scores level on 1-1. During the course of the period, both teams made 9 goal attempts each.
The final period was no way different from the second period. During the final 20 minutes of play, both teams made 6 goal attempts each. It took some time for the first goal to come. The goal was scored by Chicago Blackhawks through Patrick Kane in the 8th
minute.
Ottawa Senators managed to come up with a goal too as they combined very well in the 19th minute. The goal was scored by Milan Michalek from a brilliant backhand shot. Though the home crowd was disappointed but they continued to cheer.
The period didn’t see any further goals and ended with the sores level on 2-2. As a result, the match went into overtime.
No goals were scored during the overtime but Patrick Kane’s goal proved to be the difference in the shootout as Chicago Blackhawks won the match 3-2.
