NHL Special Report – New York Rangers win 3-2 against the Dallas Stars in shootout after a very tough encounter
Dallas Stars hosted the New York Rangers this Friday at the American Airlines Centre. The match was played in front of 15,000 fans and was the 608th game of the regular season with both teams playing their 42nd game of the campaigns
respectively. Artem Anisimov, centre of the New York Rangers was named the star selection of the match for his equalizing goal in the final period. After the scores were level on 2-2 after regulation time, the match was decided in shootout where no goals from
where New York Rangers emerged as 3-2 winners.
After a decent start to the match which can also be called a cautious start, the teams start to attack as the period progressed. Not all men went on the attack as the defence was also looked upon by both teams.
Dallas Stars had the advantage of being the home team. Coupled with this was the large crowd that backed them. As a result they grew in confidence and started to come across goal scoring chances regularly.
Dallas Stars finally broke the deadlock as they scored through Brain Sutherby from a brilliant flick shot in the 8th minute. The period saw both teams making numerous goal attempts but no goals were scored as Dallas led 1-0 going into the break
with both teams making 10 goal attempts each.
The second period saw New York Rangers come out strong and attack right from the word go. The Rangers successfully scored the equalizer in the 3rd minute through Ruslan Fedotenko from a superb flick shot.
Dallas Stars was content on regaining the lead and they started to come up with strong attacks too. Dallas caught the New York Rangers on a counter attack and scored through Mike Ribeiro to get into the lead once again.
The period saw New York Rangers finish on a high as they fired couple of shots at the end. The period ended with Dallas leading 2-1 as they made 8 goal attempts while New York Rangers made 11 goal attempts in the period.
The final period started off with the New York Rangers continuing to pile pressure on the Dallas Stars and displaying some excellent skills while combining together.
New York Rangers was able to level the scores with a goal by Artem Anisimov in the 9th minute. There were several more goal attempts made by both teams but no goals were scored as the regulation time period ended with the scored level on 2-2.
The match went into overtime where no goals were scored. However, Mats Zuccarello’s goal in shootout won New York Rangers the match 3-2.
