NHL: St. Louis Blues host the Minnesota Wild at the Scottrade Arena
Scottrade Arena will host another one of Tuesday’s games as the St. Louis Blues play host to the Minnesota Wild. This will be the fourth and final meeting between the two teams during the course of the season. Out of the three meetings, the Wild won
the first two games 5-4 and 3-1.
The Blues won the last game between the two teams 6-3 and will be looking to end the series on level terms. Both teams still have very slim chances of making it into the play-off cut depending on other teams as well.
They will be hoping that teams above them drop points and they win all of their remaining games. A loss for either of the teams at this stage could see them bidding farewell to their play-off chances. The Wild were at one stage in a comfortable position
in the Western Conference for the play-offs. However, they suffered some heavy losses that has seen them slipping down to the 11th spot in the Conference.
The Wild trail the Ducks by 10 points and need to win if they are to give themselves any chance of making their way into the cut. On the other hand, the Blues are next to the Wild in the Conference and trail the Ducks by 11 points. A loss for either
team would send them watching the play-offs as they would no longer be part of it.
The Wild have seen a great decline in their form in the month of March as they were in the mix of the play-off cut but scoring only three out of a possible 24 points has seen them down and out of play-off contention. The Wild’s poor performances extend
to the last eight games where they have failed to register a win.
"What we say and what we do in there will stay between the players and the coaches and the staff," Richards said after the closed-door session commenced.
The Wild have played 75 games during the course of the season out of which they have won 35 games in regulation time, eight games in overtime and scored a total of 78 points. On the other hand, the Blues have played 75 games as well, winning 34 games
in regulation time, nine games in overtime to score a total of 77 points.
The Blues have a steeper mountain to climb but they have the advantage of winning the last two games and have a chance of registering their third win in four games.
They faced the Wild in their last game where they were level on 2-2 as the second period started but managed to show some brilliance in offence and won the game 6-3 in the end.
"Anytime you can get a big swing of momentum it's going to have an influence on the game," Stewart said following the game. "That's where we kind of took over and got the bounces from there on in."
Both the teams are pretty much even but the Blues have a good run going into the game and have a strong chance of emerging as winners.
