NHL - Tampa Bay Lightning wins Game 4 by 5-3 against the Boston Bruins to level the series at 2-2
The fourth game of the Eastern Conference Finals series between Tampa Bay Lightning and Boston Bruins was played at the St. Pete Times Forum this Saturday, May 21st, and Lightning won the game by 5-3 to level the series at 2-2.
Bruins was leading the series 2-1 prior to this game and was hoping to win to put themselves just one win away from a spot in the Stanley Cup Finals. Lightning, on the other hand, was hoping that they would win the game and level the series.
The game started off with Bruins playing brilliantly in the first period and scoring three goals to get into a comfortable position. They led 3-0 as the teams went into the break.
The second period witnessed both teams coming out strong on the offence but Lightning came out to be the stronger one and scored thrice to level the scores.
Lightning continued the dominating performance in the final period to score two more goals to record a 5-3 win in the end.
Lightning’s Ryan Malone was named ‘Star of the Game’ for coming up with the assist for the game winning goal.
Both teams made a decent start to the game, making considerable number of shots on goal. There were early chances for both teams to go ahead but they were unable to capitalize them.
Bruins got better and better with the passage of time and this resulted in them scoring to get into the lead.
The goal was scored by Patrice Bergeron from a well placed flick shot in the 12th minute. The game continued with Bruins dominating and they scored again in the 17th minute through Michael Ryder’s brilliant backhand shot. Bergeron ended the period with a short hand goal in the 18th minute to put Bruins in a comfortable 3-0 lead as the period ended.
Lightning made 10 shots on goal during the period while the Bruins made 9.
The second period witnessed Lightning exploding at the start. They scored in the seventh minute through Teddy Purcell’s backhand shot and Purcell scored again in the very next play of the game.
The comeback was completed with a goal in the 11th minute that was scored by Sean Bergenheim with a well placed flick shot. The second period saw both teams coming up with several shots on goal.
Both teams made 13 shots on goal during the course of the second period and the scores levelled on 3-3.
The final period saw Lightning scoring in the seventh minute through Simon Gagne’s flick shot to get into the lead. Lightning was able to come up with several more shots on goal but still there were no goals.
Lightning scored their final goal through Martin St. Louis to double their lead.
The period and the game ended with Lightning winning the game by 5-3. Lightning made 14 shots on goal while Bruins made eight in the final period.
