NHL Team Power Rankings for the 2011-2012 Regular Season –Week 12 Part 3
Montreal Canadiens (23)
The Montreal Canadiens were another team that had their coach, Jacques Martin, fired for the performance of his club ever since the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season kicked off.
For the Canadiens, who were the most recent to face such an experience, must take this as a reality check if they plan on making any difference in the postseason this time around because to be honest, Montreal was a much better team last season compared
to how they are playing at the moment.
“Over the last few weeks, we didn’t know what would be coming out of the box every night,” said Montreal general manager, Pierre Gauthier, who also fired an assistant coach of the tea, Perry Pearn, earlier this season to jumpstart the team without any benefit.
Montreal has managed to win just one in the past three and have lost two in a row up until now against the Philadelphia Flyers and New Jersey Devils.
Standing at number 12 in the Eastern Conference with a 13-13-7 record, Montreal Canadiens are number 23 on the power rankings.
New York Islanders (22)
New York Islanders look like they are beginning to show some hope, at some different points in the season as they stand tied for the last spot in the Eastern Conference with 26 points, but are so high up in the power rankings because at least they are trying
with a young roster of players instead of having heavily experienced players like the other clubs.
The Islanders ended the week by snapping a four game losing streak by taking down the second place Minnesota Wild in the West with a, 2-1, win in surprisingly a shootout.
New York has a record of 10-14-6 and stands number 22 in the power rankings.
Toronto Maple Leafs (21)
Toronto might be in heaven at the moment since they are above the playoff line, a place they wished and dreamt about in the final moments of the 2010-2011 regular season and failed to make the playoffs, but as this season progresses, they will have to pick
up the pace in order to keep their position secure.
Currently, Toronto has tremendous shooting power and capabilities but they are failing to do any defence throughout their matchups which end up costing them when the dust settles and everything is done and over with.
The Maple Leafs only won one of their past three matchups this week and are currently on a two game losing streak with a total of two wins in the month of December so far.
With 35 points and at number eight of the Eastern Conference, Toronto Maple Leafs are number 21 on our NHL power rankings.
Tampa Bay Lightning (20)
Tampa Bay is in the worse of positions than it has seen in the past few seasons. Being a team that was able to penetrate the playoffs last season to the point of reaching the Eastern Conference Finals and nearly reaching the Stanley Cup Finals, seeing them
now is a complete embarrassment.
Not having many consecutive wins so far in this season, seeing them ending this week with two straight over the Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets gives some hope that maybe, just maybe their motors have started running.
The Lightning are number 13 in the East and 20 on our power rankings for the 12th regular season week.
