NHL: Top franchise Los Angeles Kings and other bid for best, Windsor Spitfire forward Taylor Hall goes in as number 1
The 2010 NHL Drafting season will begin this year by the 25th of June, making it the 48th Draft Entry. The season is to be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles; for the first time. It is the home ground for one of the top franchises ‘Los Angeles Kings’.
Things are heating up as new hot amateur players are planning on joining the League. The Mock draft and profiles of the top prospects are out. The list for the top 8 players to be drafted are as follows:
1. Taylor Hall: ranking at #1 plays as a forward for the Windsor Spitfire. Taylor has maintained very high standards and has yet to do anything to damage his chances in the season. Taylor was the only player who was considered adequate enough to play for Canada’s World Junior Championship, with an average of two points per game. Hall is considered to be an extremely talented forward, his natural ability to know what the opponent’s next move would be, can’t be ignored. His aptitude to play as a wing just adds to his value as a player making him the top pick.
2. Erik Gudbranson: is the #2 pick for the season, he is a defence man, also thought to be the best defensive player from this year’s draft. Despite facing various injuries the player still remains as one of the top picks. Gudbranson’s characteristics shows that he undeniably consists of traits only star players posses: his calm, neat, smart, and leadership qualities show he has what it takes to become the future captain at some point of his career. His astute observation, slick moves, smart passes all add up, proving he indeed is an all rounder.
3. Cam fowler: his agility, speed and strength make him great at defence. His smooth skating skills make him one of the best in the drafts; landing at #3 pick. Although he needs to bulk-up his anatomy a bit, so he could make a stronger defensive player. His knack to rush a bit, when he sees a big hit coming or taking longer routes to puck at times are few of his weaknesses. Regardless of the flaws, Fowler definitely has the apparatus to become one of the best as a defensive player.
4. Tyler Seguin: Landing at #4, comes off as a strong and dominant player, making him purely a centre. He gave Tyler Hall tough competition for the #1 spot. Seguin is one of the smartest players on the draft this season; his ability to make the right decisions at the right time gives him edge over other centres, he demonstrated his skills at the 2008 and 2009 season.
5. Brett Connolly: plays for the Prince George Cougars of the Western Hockey League as a junior player. He is currently ranked as #5 for the drafting picks playing as a right wing. It is said he is a blossoming as a powerful forward who has the strength to bring the crowd to the edge of their seats as he touches the puck, because they know something big is about to happen. The emerging player is frequently compared to great players such as Peter Forsber and Rick Nash.
6. Nino Niederreiter: His heart stopping performance at the Valiant World Junior Championship, has helped increase his ranking by making him #6. His good body size and competitive nature has made him into a great defender. Even with his humungous size he has flawless balance on the ice and makes it almost impossible for the opponent to cross him. His sleekness and originality with the puck makes him a great prospect for the drafts.
7. Brandon Gormley: has a sharp-mind, accurate passing skills, his competence to make a precise shot at the right time has made him one of the most wanted players by the NHL; putting him on one of the top positions right under Nino Neiderreiter at #7. Brandon’s amazing ability to pass right through the opponents before they make a charge at him makes him a well rounded player. Although his defensive skills aren’t as good as players like Fowler or Gormley or the fact he is not as robust as Gudbranson; he still somehow manages to pull the spot light on him.
8. Ryan Johansens: outstanding ability to turn the game around is one of his biggest assets, being quick on his feet is another for a man of his stature. He is currently rated as one of the swiftest centres, with his illusive play and fast stick handling he can leave his opponents boggled. Finding his line mates open and getting the puck to them without any hesitation proves the rookie has potential. Ryan’s work ethic is one of his highlights as a good player, he never ceases to disappoint his team, keeping the spirit alive even through thick times is his thing.
