NHL Update- Anaheim Ducks up against the San Jose Sharks record win 5-2
Last year’s champions, Anaheim Ducks were up against the San Jose Sharks at the Honda Centre Wednesday, 22nd September 2010. The Honda Centre witnessed 12,633 people attending the game. The sixteenth game of the preseason proved why the Anaheim
Ducks won the Stanley Cup last year.
A dominating performance that witnessed the Ducks dominate the game throughout and in the end emerge as the winners after scoring five times. End of the game saw the score being 5-2 in favour of the Ducks.
Randy Carlyle, the Ducks head coach said “though they managed to win there were still times when the team acted immaturely and they could have done better.”
The first period of the game was a good one for both teams as they came up with 8 and 7 shots respectively. Out of the seven shots that the Duck made, they managed to score once. Ryan Getzlaf scored the only goal in the first period with 12:40 left in the
play. Though Ryan Getzlaf was hit at the start of the game with 28 seconds on the clock but he recovered and stomping his authority on the field he scored. The Anaheim could have scored once again but thanks to the Jose Sharks goalie, they couldn’t make it
count after a brilliant save.
The second period of the game saw a huge number of shots being hit by the Sharks. However, they urged and tried their best to level the game but they couldn’t manage to score any goals. Though the Sharks were able to come up with loads of shots, numerically
14, they failed to convert any of the shots into goals. On the other hand, the Ducks were able to record the most productive period of the game. They managed to score three goals out of the five shots. Such was the dominance of the Ducks that they enjoyed
possession and when they hit shots they scored.
The second period witnessed Aaron Voros score from a distance of 18 feet with 1:38 on the clock. The third goal for the Ducks was scored by Danny Syvret with 15:01 on the clock after he hit a shot from a distance of 11 feet. The fourth was scored by Ryan
Getzlaf once again after a splendid hit from a distance of 16 feet with 15:19 on the clock. The sudden goals resulted in the Sharks panicking and Ducks coming up with dominating second period performance.
During a small conversation with Ryan Getzlaf, he said “I am very happy at scoring twice already, I hope we win even I don’t score once again.”
The final period of the game was one of the periods where the Sharks constantly bombarded the Ducks goal. They did this 18 times out of which they converted two into goals. On the other hand, the Ducks were in a comfortable position and again managed to
produce less but more productive six shots. Out of these six shots, one was converted into a goal by Jason Blake with 10:23 on the clock from a distance of 18 feet.
The other goal scorers were from the Sharks that included Torrey Mitchell who scored from a distance of 10 feet with 7:31 on the clock after a perfect turn and shot. The other scorer was Taylor Doherty who scored from a distance of 24 feet with 10:51 on
the clock.
This completed a dominating performance by the Ducks and further cementing their position as the champions recording a victory 5-2 at home.
The three star picks at the end of the game saw Ducks goalie Jonas Hiller being the 1st, Ryan Getzlaf as the 2nd and Matt Beleskey the 3rd due to his smooth and swift play making.
At the end the Sharks head coach Todd Mclellan said, “Though we played well and were ahead on chances but lacked the final touch which is it looks a very bad performance though it wasn’t.”
