Atlanta Thrashers versus the Boston Bruins was the first game of Thursday and the 506th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series.
The match was expected to be won by Atlanta Thrashers but the Boston Bruins showed that matches are not won on paper and came up with a good performance which in the end saw them win comfortably 4-1.
Boston Bruins were quick to get out of the blocks and with the tremendous passing and combination up front, they managed to score in the 3rd minute to take the lead. This goal proved to be the only goal of the period and was scored by Patrice
Bergeron from a well-placed flick shot.
Boston continued in search of another goal and they certainly got the chances but unfortunately didn’t score. However, the home team decided to switch to a defence mode after the first 10 minutes. As a result, the Thrashers grew in confidence and started
making goal attempts.
No furthers goals were scored during the remaining period with the Boston Bruins leading 1-0 at the end of the first period. During the course of the period, Atlanta and Boston both made 10 goal attempts each.
Boston continued with the dominating performance in the 2nd period at put the foot on the gas from the start. The home team’s constant attacks and hard work saw them scoring through Michael Ryder early on in the 5th minute. Boston stunned
the away side with another goal in the 5th minute once again this time through Shawn Thornton from a long range powerful strike.
Atlanta Thrashers also pushed ahead in search of some sort of retaliation. They managed to score in the 9th minute through Dustin Byfuglien from a brilliant backhand shot.
The period saw both teams coming across more scoring chances but neither of the teams was able to score and the period ended with Boston leading 3-1. During the course of the period, Atlanta Thrashers made 8 goal attempts while Boston Bruins made 13 goal
attempts.
Boston strength in the offence continued to put them in scoring position in the 3rd period as well. The home team successfully scored in the 5th minute to score the only goal of the period and seal the match. The goal was scored by
Shawn Thornton who scored from a superb backhand.
Again, both teams had numerous scoring opportunities but none were converted into goals as the period and the match ended with the Boston Bruins winning 4-1.
During the course of the match Atlanta Thrashers made 27 goal attempts while the Boston Bruins made 36 goal attempts and Shawn Thornton was named the star player of the match for his 2 goals.
