NHL Update: Chicago Blackhawks defeat the Minnesota Wild 3-1

Defending Champions Chicago Blackhawks beat the Minnesota Wild 3-1 at the United Centre on Wednesday. Both teams played hard, as they chase an elusive National Hockey League play-off spot. The Hawks dominated the game, as they did give many scoring chances
to the Wild. The Hawks’ goal-keeper Corey Crawford was named the star selection of the game, as he managed 33 saves during the course of the game.
Both teams made a great start to game attacking at any possible chance. There were several scoring chancing for the teams, but they failed to find the back of the net. The Wild were very strong offensively and with the quickness in their passing, they got
past the opposing defence easily. However, the constant attacks by the Wild, left a lot of open spaces at the back.
The Hawks managed a counter attack in the 13th minute and scored to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Brian Campbell during power-play from a powerful strike. The Wild continuously attacked, but failing to score. The Hawks also came up
with a few shots on goal, but they too were unable to find any further goals.
The period ended with the Hawks leading 1-0. The Hawks ended the period making 10 goal attempts with the Wild managed 17 goal attempts.
The second period started with the Wild continuing their attacking game. The Hawks had momentum flowing in their favour, as they started to dominate the game. The winds changed direction and the Hawks started to come up with shots on goal, as they displayed
some excellent shooting and passing abilities.
Both teams had some potentially goal scoring chances, but were unsuccessful in finding the back of the net. As the period was coming to a close, the Hawks intensified their attacks. Despite this, no more goals were scored, as the period ended with the Hawks
still leading 1-0.
During the second period, the Hawks made 18 goal attempts with the Wild managing 8 goal attempts.
The final period of the game saw both teams attacking right from the word go. The Wild scored their first goal in the 7th minute through Matt Cullen during the power-play to level the scores.
Both teams were pretty much even during the final 20 minutes of play. The Hawks were stronger of the two teams on the offence and managed scored through Troy Brouwer during the power-play to take the lead in the 8th minute. The Hawks scored another
goal in the final minute, as Jake Dowell flicked a shot in to win the game. The game ended with the Hawks winning 3-1.
As the NHL post-season is getting closer, all the teams are picking up their performances as a last ditch effort to enter a play-off spot.  It will be interesting to see how the Hawks manage to lift their performance and give the fans something to cheer
about.
