NHL Update – Dallas Stars win 4-3 against the Detroit Red Wings after overtime
The first match of Sunday saw the Detroit Red Wings play host to the Dallas Stars. This was the 485th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series and was played at the Joe Louis Arena in front of 20,000 fans. There were high hopes from the
home team but the Dallas Stars managed to come up with a win even though they were going through some tough times. This was the 33rd game of the season for the Dallas Stars while the Red Wings played the 32nd game of the season.
An explosive start was observed from both teams as they attacked right from the word go. The home team was the early dominating team as they controlled the pace of the game with passing and shooting. They not only made regular goal attempts but successfully
scored in the 4th minute to take the lead.
The goal was scored by Pavel Datsyuk from a brilliant backhand shot. The home team pressed on in search of another goal. The away side also didn’t back from the challenge and attacked as well. However, it was the Dallas Stars who scored in the 13th
minute once again to double their lead. The goal came as a result of a flick shot by Patrick Eaves.
This time the Dallas Stars were able to respond to this with a goal in the 14th minute from Brad Richards who is in hot form and was expected to score.
As the period neared its end, the away side managed to score once again to level the score heading into the second period. The goal was scored by Brenden Morrow through a simple tip in shot. The period ended with the scores level on 2-2.
During the course of the second period both teams had their share of chances, in fact they made 10 goal attempts each. During the early parts of the game, the puck went up and down the pitch but none of the shots found the back of the net.
The home team was successful in scoring the only goal of the period in the 20th minute to get into the lead once again. The goal was scored by Johan Franzen from a quick fired powerful strike. The period saw the Detroit Red Wings leading into
the break 3-2.
The final 20 minutes of play were the same as the 2nd period, only this time the home team wasn’t able to score. However, the Dallas Stars scored to level the match in the 17th minute and take the match into overtime. The goal was scored
by Brenden Morrow from a decent backhand shot.
The regulation time ended with the scores level on 3-3. During overtime Loui Eriksson’s goal in the 5th minute won the Dallas Stars the match 4-3.
