NHL Update: Vancouver Canucks lose 2-6 to the San Jose Sharks
The 71st game of the NHL preseason witnessed the San Jose Sharks hosting the Vancouver Canucks at the HP Pavilion. An attendance of about 16,000 was observed during the course of the match. The match took place Wednesday, 29th September
2010.
First period
Out of the three periods, the first period was the most productive in terms of goals. During the early part of the period, both teams couldn’t come up with good shots or plays despite weak defences. However, as the game progressed, both teams settled. As
a result, brilliant moves start to form along with potential goal scoring opportunities.
However, it was the Vancouver Canucks who managed to get the first blood when they scored in the 7th minute. The goal came from a Raffe Torres 39 feet shot. In response to this, the San Jose Sharks backed by the home crowd started to come up with
good plays of their own. They managed to convert one of the chances into a goal in the 9th minute. Joe Pavelski’s 24 feet slap off levelled things at 1-1.
The home team, San Jose Sharks continued their hunt for another goal. Constantly coming up with goal attempts and splendid passing, they managed to find the back of the net once again in the 16th minute. Logan Couture’s shot putting the San Jose
Sharks in the lead at 2-1.
The period ended on the same score as the home team was cheered of the field into the break.
The period ended with the San Jose Sharks managing to score twice out of the 13 goal attempts compared to 1 goal out of 6 goal attempts of the Vancouver Canucks.
Second period
The San Jose Sharks started from where they left off in the first period. They dominated the proceedings and started to fire shots at the Vancouver Canucks on a regular basis.
From pin point passing to bullet shots, the home team dominated every department skilfully. The San Jose Sharks managed to establish 2 goals lead in the 2nd minute of the second period. The goal scorer this time was Jamie McGinn, left winger of
the San Jose Sharks.
With the score on 3-1, the San Jose Sharks pushed the Vancouver Canucks defence to the limit until they got past it once again in the 10th minute. John Mccarthy bagged the goal and took the score to 4-1 in favour of the Sharks.
However, this time, the Vancouver Canucks to score at once within the next one minute when Raffe Torres scored his 2nd goal of the match. The score board showed 4-2 in favour of the San Jose Sharks.
At the end of the second period, both teams managed to come up with 8 shots. Out of these goal attempts, the Vancouver Canucks managed to score once. The San Jose Sharks net 2 times out of the 8 goal attempts.
Third period
The third was very productive for the home team, San Jose Sharks. They managed to score twice during the course of the period.
With the possession and play making, the San Jose Sharks scored once again in the 6th minute through Dany Heatley. This took the score to 5-2 in favour of the Sharks. The San Jose Sharks also managed to form a very tough and tight backline that
the Vancouver Canucks couldn’t pass.
With the score on 5-2, the Sharks were resting in their half waiting for the Canucks to make a mistake. The San Jose Sharks managed to break past the opposing defence once again in the 11th minute and took the score to 6-2 with Andreas Lilja.
This is how the period ended with the score and the San Jose Sharks were able to overpower the Vancouver Canucks by 4 goals.
At the end of the match, Dany Heatley of the San Jose Sharks was named the 1st star selection. The 2nd star selection of the match was Logan Couture, centre of the San Jose Sharks.
