NHL Update – Weekend Roundup (Part II)

Phoenix Coyotes win 4-3 against the New York Islanders after shootout

New York Islanders hosted the Phoenix Coyotes this past Saturday. New York Islanders are struggling and are among the bottom teams in the standings. The Phoenix Coyotes on the other hand are not in a good position either as they are going through some tough
times in the season. The match was very tough right from the start and saw the Phoenix Coyotes win, 4-3 in the end after shootout.
During the course of the first period both teams had numerous goal scoring opportunities but they couldn’t score. However, the first goal of the period was scored by the away side in the 7th after dominating the period and keeping possession for
quite some time.
The goal was scored by Radim Vrbata from a simple tip in shot. The period didn’t see any more goals and ended with the Phoenix Coyotes leading 1-0 going into the break.
The 2nd period saw the home side step up their game and scoring in the 10th minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Jesse Joensuu from a well placed flick shot that left the goal keeper with no chance of stopping it. Michael
Grabner scored in the 15th minute to put the home team in the lead as they led 2-1 at the end of the 2nd period.
The final period saw the Coyotes scoring in the 5th minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Wojtek Wolski from a well placed flick shot. The New York Rangers scored once again to take the lead through Rob Schremp but the Phoenix Coyotes
scored through Martin Hanzal to level the scores again in the 19th minute to take the match into overtime.
No goals were scored during overtime and the Phoenix Coyotes won the match 4-3.
Carolina Hurricanes win 4-2 against the Anaheim Ducks
Carolina Hurricanes played host to the Anaheim Ducks in another game on Saturday. The match was expected to be won by the Carolina Hurricanes and they won the match as expected 4-2.
The first period was started strongly by the away side and they quickly scored in the 3rd minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Ryan Getzlaf from a wonderful long range perfectly placed strike.
However, the home side started to pile up attack after attack and finally managed to score in the 8th minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Eric Staal from a decent strike. The Carolina Hurricanes scored once again in the 20th
minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Eric Staal once again from a long range shot. The period ended with the Hurricanes leading 2-1.
The 2nd period saw the Carolina Hurricanes press on once again as their search for goals continued and they scored once again in the 2nd minute to take the score to 3-1. The goal was scored by Eric Staal who completed his hat-trick.
Both teams had numerous scoring chances but the goal keepers of the teams came up with decent saves every now and then. The period ended with the Carolina Hurricanes leading 3-1 at the end of the period.
The final period of the match saw the Anaheim Ducks and the Carolina Hurricanes start off slowly but with the passage of time both teams stepped up their game which resulted in the Anaheim Ducks scoring in the 19th minute to cut the lead to just
one goal. The goal was scored by Ryan Getzlaf who scored his second goal of the night.
Joe Corvo scored in the 20th minute of the match but it was a little too late with just 5 seconds of play remaining. The match ended with the Carolina Hurricanes winning the match 4-2.
