NHL Updates – Boston Bruins face Washington Capitals for the final time in the regular season
The 2nd game of Saturday will see the Boston Bruins play host to the Washington Capitals in the 474th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. This will be the 4th encounter of the teams in the season. The first and
second matches were won by the Boston Bruins comprehensively but last time out the Capitals managed to overpower the Bruins to win the match 5-3. Both matches that the Bruins won were on home ground and they have the advantage once again and are looking strong
ahead of the match.
Both teams are going through some terrible times in the season. The Capitals are desperately searching for a victory as they have lost the last seven games. Four of these losses have come in regulation time. Boston Bruins are not the lucky ones here either
as they have lost the last three straight games.
The last two weeks have been mere misery for the Washington Capitals offensively. They have drastically failed and scored only nine goals in the last seven games which they have lost. Out of these nine goals, four goals were scored in one game which means
that they scored only four goals in six games which is by no means the performance expected from the Capitals.
Talking about the Capitals loss this Wednesday against the Anaheim Ducks, one of the players said, "When they're not going in, they're not going in," Laich said. "But I thought our team did a great job without the puck. If we play like that, we are going
to get rewarded for it."
The Washington Capitals have played 33 games so far in the season. They have won 18 games in regulation time and 4 in overtime, scoring 40 points. Out of these 11 losses, 7 have been in the last 7 games. Boston have played 30 games so far out of which they
have won 20 games, losing 10 games and scoring 36 points.
Boston were up against the Montreal Canadiens this Wednesday and were looking to win the match. But the result was the opposite as the Bruins fell behind just like they did in the previous two games and couldn’t recover.
Whe talking about defence then goal keeper Tim Thomas allowed only 4 goals out of the 41 goal attempts made by the Canadiens which is somewhat acceptable. Undoubtedly weak but the offence is coming up with no help either.
After the loss Blake Wheeler said, "We dug ourselves a hole again and tried to claw out of it but it's tough to continue to claw out of those holes each and every night."
None of the players in the Capitals roster can be categorized as being in hot form as they have failed day by day which can be seen from the last seven straight losses. The Boston Bruins would be happy to learn that their forward, Milan Lucic is in good
form and bagged 6 goals in the last 9 games.
