NHL Updates – Colorado Avalanche win 3-2 against the Montreal Canadiens to push up their standing
The final game of Sunday saw the Colorado Avalanche playing host to the Montreal Canadiens. Both teams were close in the standings ahead of the match with the Montreal Canadiens ahead of the Avalanche by just 1 point. This was
the 487th game of the season which was attended by 18,000 fans. Both teams played the 33rd game of the season that was won by the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 and put them in the 6th spot while the Montreal Canadiens were pushed
down to 12th.
A cautious start was made by both teams as they knew that either side was very strong in counterattacking. This restricted the teams to very few goal attempts during the course of period. But all the plays that developed were absolutely
amazing and splendid to watch.
As the period progressed, both teams started to get desperate and it was the Montreal Canadiens who scored in the 11th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Michael Cammalleri from a powerful long range shot.
The home team responded but it took time for them to level the scores. The goal was finally scored in the 20th minute through Ryan Wilson from another powerful long range strike. The period didn’t see any further goals
with the scores level at 1-1. During the course of the period, the Montreal Canadiens made 7 goal attempts while the Colorado Avalanche made 8.
The 2nd period was again started strongly by both teams but this time the away side was able to come up with attacks and dominate the early half of the period. The away side scored in the 3rd minute to take
the lead once again. The goal was scored by Alexandre Picard from a decent shot.
However, the home team backed by the home crowd combined brilliantly to score in the 5th minute to level the scores once again. The goal was scored by Kevin Porter from a spectacular backhand shot.
The final goal of the period was scored by T.J Galiardi from a superb flick shot as the Colorado Avalanche took the lead for the first time and led 3-2 going into the break.
The final period saw the home team defend very well and block all the 14 goal attempts made by the Montreal Canadiens to win the match 3-2.
