NHL Updates – Colorado Avalanche win 4-3 against Buffalo Sabres after overtime
Colorado Avalanche hosted the 588th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series at the Pepsi Centre. The match saw the home team host the struggling Buffalo Sabres with match played this Tuesday. Colorado Avalanche being above Buffalo Sabres
in the league table was expected to come up with comfortable win but Buffalo Sabres came up with decent performance and took the match into overtime where David Jones scored for Colorado Avalanche won the match 4-3.
The match started cautiously by both teams as they didn’t want to give away early goals. There was an air of uncertainty as the teams went on the attacks. There were early chances for both sides but they failed to convert them into goals.
However, the game intensified in the second part of the period with Colorado Avalanche attacking with all of their men involved. They were rewarded for this with a goal scored by Daniel Winnik from a brilliant flick shot in the 15th minute.
Buffalo Sabres immediately responded with attacks and within a few seconds scored through Thomas Vanek to level the scores. After the goals, smoothness in both teams play was observed. Colorado Avalanche was rewarded was rewarded for their hard work with
a goal in the Ryan O’Reilly in the 17th minute.
The period ended with both teams making a few more goal attempts at the end of the period with no success as Colorado Avalanche led 2-1 into the break. During the course of the period Colorado Avalanche 9 goal attempts while Buffalo Sabres made 8 goal attempts.
The second period was a reflection of the first period. The only difference was the fact that there weren’t any goals in the period despite the numerous goal attempts.
Goal attempts and brilliant pieces of play were regularly observed by both teams. Colorado had a very good chance to score but David Jones’s shot went wide off the target.
The period ended with Colorado leading 2-1 at the end of the period with both teams making 9 goal attempts.
Buffalo Sabres changed their strategy in the final period and attacked with full force in the final period. This resulted in the away side scoring through Jochen Hecht in the 5th minute to level the scores. Buffalo Sabres continued to attack and
scored once again in the very next minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Steve Montador from a brilliant flick shot.
Colorado Avalanche managed to equalize in the 7th minute with the goal scored by Matt Duchene at the end of a brilliant move. The period saw numerous goal attempts made till the very end of the period but no further goals were scored.
The period and the match ended with the scores level on 3-3 with Sabres making 20 goal attempts while Colorado made 11 goal attempts.
The scores being tied resulted in the match going into overtime where Colorado scored through David Jones to win the match 4-3.
