NHL Updates - Montreal Canadians win 3-2 against the Carolina Hurricanes
The 511th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was hosted by the Carolina Hurricanes at the RBC Centre this Thursday. The match was played between the home side and the Montreal Canadians, who had won their last game. Both the teams
are separated by quite a few spots with the Montreal Canadians in the 9th place and the Carolina Hurricanes at 22nd. The match was much tougher than anticipated which was eventually won by the Montreal Canadians. This was the 35th
game of the season for the Montreal Canadians while the Carolina Hurricanes played the 33rd game of the season.
The away side was very strong on the attacks at the start of the match. They had won their last game which gave them confidence depicted by their fierce attacks. They weren’t afraid to go full force attacking. They came across scoring opportunities regularly
but they couldn’t score any goals.
Carolina Hurricanes also got stronger as the period neared its end. The home team came across scoring opportunities too but they failed to convert them into goals and the period ended with the scores levelled on 0-0. During the course of the period Carolina
Hurricanes made 5 goal attempts while the Montreal Canadians made 11 goal attempts.
Carolina Hurricanes carried the form and momentum into the 2nd period and scored in the 2nd minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Chad LaRose from a well placed flick shot.
The away side was able to respond to this with decent goal attempts which resulted in them scoring in the 5th minute to level the scores at 1-1 through Scott Gomez’s goal. Both teams continued with the attacking mentality and it was the home team
who scored once again in the 16th minute through Erik Cole.
Montreal Canadians were determined to win the match and worked hard. This resulted in them coming across scoring opportunities regularly. The away side successfully scored in the 17th minute to level the scores once again through Andrei Kostitsyn.
Montreal kept piling pressure on the home team and took the lead for the first time in the match in the 19th minute when Alexandre Picard scored from a powerful strike.
The period ended with the Montreal Canadians leading 3-2 as they made 14 goal attempts while the Hurricanes made 9 goal attempts.
The final period saw Carolina Hurricanes come out stronger and were more aggressive of the two teams. They had numerous goal scoring chances but failed to convert them into goals. On the contrary, Montreal Canadians just sat back, defending the occasional
counter attacks.
No goals were scored in the final 20 minutes of play with the Montreal Canadians winning the match 3-2. During the course of the match Montreal Canadians’ made 29 goal attempts while the Carolina Hurricanes made 24 goal attempts. Scott Gomez was named the
star selection of the match with one goal and one assist.
