NHL Updates – Nashville Predators win 4-1 against the Anaheim Ducks
Honda Centre was the venue for the final game Wednesday and 596th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. The match saw the home team, Anaheim Ducks play host to the Nashville Predators in front of around 12,000 fans. Pekka Rinne, goal
keeper of the Nashville Predators did an excellent job in goal as he allowed only one goal and made 40 saves as his team won the match 4-1. The Anaheim Ducks dominated much of the game and controlled the game but they failed to convert the chances into goals
which resulted in them losing the game.
Nashville Predators was quick out of the blocks as they fired shots from the start and combining well left the opposing team’s defence stunned. Not only this, Nashville Predators successfully scored in the 6th minute to take the lead.
The goal was scored by Jerred Smithson from a brilliant tip in shot. After this, the period was in total control of the Anaheim Ducks. They attacked and defended inch perfect but the finishing was poor. The period didn’t see any further goals as the match
ended with the Predators leading 1-0.
During the course of the period Anaheim Ducks made 15 goal attempts while Nashville Predators made 5 goal attempts.
The second period started off in similar fashion as the first period. This time Nashville Predators came up with even strong attacks which resulted in the Ducks defence crumbling once again. Resultantly, Nashville Predators scored through Patric Hornqvist
from a long range shot in the 4th minute.
Both teams fought a very intense battle in the remaining sixteen minutes of the match but none of the numerous goal attempts made by either of the teams found the back of the net.
The period ended with Nashville Predators leading 2-0 with both teams making 12 goal attempts in the period.
The final period was a reflection of the previous two periods. They final 20 minutes of the match saw Anaheim Ducks score through Saku Koivu in the 12th minute to cut the lead to one goal.
The strong offence of the away side was able to score twice in the final minute to win the match with an impressive 4-1 score. The first goal of the two goals was scored by Sergei Kostitsyn and the second was scored by Shea Weber from a powerful strike.
