NHL Updates – New York Islanders win 4-3 against the Colorado Avalanche in overtime

Another one of the weekend encounters saw the Colorado Avalanche host the New York Islanders in the 613th game of the season. The match was played at the Pepsi Centre with around 15,000 fans coming to witness the match. Both teams were evenly
matched during the course of the match which resulted in the match going into overtime where New York Islanders managed to come up with a goal and win the match 4-3. John Tavares was named the star selection of the match for his winning goal.
Colorado Avalanche made a great start to the match dominating the game right from the word go. The home team with the splendid pieces of play and great offence scored through Milan Hejduk from a flick shot to take the lead in the match in the very first
minute.
The continued pressure on the Islanders defence saw the Avalanche scoring once again in the 2nd minute to double their lead. The goal was scored by David Koci from a powerful strike. Colorado continued to attack despite leading by two goals.
This went against them as New York Islanders caught them on a counter attack and scored through Jeremy Colliton in the 6th minute. The match continued with both teams attack. The puck was seen going to and fro on the pitch. The away side managed
to level the scores as they scored through Blake Comeau from a powerful strike from long range.
The period ended with the scores level on 2-2 with Islanders making 9 goal attempts while Colorado made 12 goal attempts.
New York Islanders attacked from the start of the second period and managed to come across scoring opportunities. The away side took the lead scoring through Jeremy Colliton in the 4th minute. This proved to be the only goal of the period despite
the several goal attempts made by both teams.
Colorado had the chance to level the scores right at the depth but the shot was brilliantly saved by the goal keeper. The period ended with the New York Islanders leading the 3-2 with both team making 11 goal attempts during the course of the period.
The final period saw both team fight hard to score but neither of the teams was successful in doing so early on. However, Colorado Avalanche levelled the scores in the last minute through Milan Hejduk’s goal.
The period ended with the scores level on 3-3 with Islanders making 5 goal attempts while Colorado Avalanche made 11 goal attempts.
The match went into overtime where John Tavares goal won New York Islanders the match with the score on 4-3.
