NHL Updates – Pittsburgh Penguins crush Tampa Bay Lightning as they win 8-1

Pittsburgh Penguins hosted Tampa Bay Lightning in the 592nd game of the season at the Consol Energy Centre this Wednesday. This was played in front of around 18,000 fans with both teams playing the 41st game of their respective campaigns.
This meeting between the two sides was expected to be a very tight one and predicted to go even into an overtime but it turned out to be a totally one sided match. Pittsburgh Penguins came up with a dominating performance which saw them winning the match 8-1
in the end.
Pittsburgh Penguins was in attacking mode from the start of the match. With just seven seconds in the period played, Penguins scored through Evgeni Malkin from a well placed flick shot to take the lead. Pittsburgh Penguins were very strong and they managed
to score once again through Chris Conner in the 3rd minute from a simple tip in shot.
Tampa Bay Lightning made a few attacks after this and almost scored in the 5th minute to cut the lead to one goal but this didn’t happen. Once again, Pittsburgh Penguins stepped on the gas and immediately scored through Tyler Kennedy in the 8th
minute. This was followed by a second goal for Chris Kunitz.
With the score 4-0 in favour of Pittsburgh Penguins, they just stood back and kept possession and didn’t attack like the first few attacks. Tampa Bay Lightning on the other hand attacked with all their men involved which backfired as Penguins caught them
on a counter attack and scored through Chris Kunitz once again in the 19th minute.
The period ended with Pittsburgh Penguins leading 5-0 going into the break. During the 20 minutes of play, Pittsburgh made 20 goal attempts while Tampa Bay Lightning made 8 goal attempts.
Tampa Bay Lightning made a great start to the second period and it looked as if they would score most certainly but this didn’t happen. In fact, it was Pittsburgh Penguins who successfully scored in the 13th minute through Mark Letestu from a
spectacular backhand shot to take the score to 6-0.
Pittsburgh Penguins winger, Chris Kunitz completed his hat-trick with the final goal of the period in the final period. The period ended with Pittsburgh Penguins leading 7-0. During the course of the period, Pittsburgh made 16 goal attempts while Tampa Bay
Lightning made 7 goal attempts.
Tampa Bay Lightning started the final period with a goal scored by Adam Hall from a tip in shot. However, Pittsburgh regained the 7 goals lead as Alex Goligoski scored in the 4th minute. The period was totally dominated by Tampa Bay Lightning
but Pittsburgh Penguins won the match with an impressive 8-1 score line.
