NHL Updates – Vancouver Canucks win 4-3 against San Jose Sharks to take winning streak to five games
San Jose Sharks playing host to the Vancouver Canucks was played this Monday at the HP Pavilion Centre. This was the final game of Monday and 585th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series. The match was played with around 17,500 fans present
to support their teams. This proved to be a much tighter match than expected but in the end the league leaders managed to come up with a 4-3 win with Daniel Sedin, left winger for the Canucks was named the star selection of the match with a goal and an assist.
Both teams suffered a common problem was that they had a very strong and good offence but the finishing was poor. The play making from both sides was excellent which put them ahead of the defence but the final touch let them down.
However, Vancouver Canucks managed to score the only goal of the period through a powerful strike from long range by Daniel Sedin. The shot took a deflection on its way and caught the goalie by surprise. Canucks was undoubtedly the stronger team in the period
and kept on attacking till the end of the period.
No further goals were scored as the period ended with Vancouver Canucks leading 1-0. During the 20 minutes of Canucks made 15 goal attempts while San Jose Sharks made 7 goal attempts.
The second period started on a high for San Jose Sharks and they quickly capitalized from the slow start by Canucks scoring in the 6th minute through Ryane Clowe to level the scores.
Vancouver Canucks responded to this with attacks and scored in the 9th minute to take the lead once again with Alexander Edler scoring from a quick fired shot. San Jose Sharks was determined not to let the Canucks run away with the game so they
started to attack with all their men involved in the attacks.
This resulted in the Sharks scoring two goals in quick succession to take the lead with the score on 3-2. The first goal was scored in the 13th minute through Patrick Marleau and the second was scored in the 15th minute by Jamal Mayers
from a decent strike.
Just as it looked that the Sharks would be leading at the end of the period, Vancouver Canucks scored through Jannik Hansen to level the scores once again in the final minute. The score at the end of the period was 3-3 with Canucks making 11 goal attempts
while the Sharks made 15 goal attempts.
The final period saw Vancouver Canucks step up the pace as they made 21 goal attempts in the period! On the contrary, Sharks made 13 goal attempts.
Out of the 21 goal attempts, Vancouver Canucks scored in the 9th minute through Alexandre Burrows and win the match 4-3 for Vancouver Canucks. The goal keepers of both teams did an exception job in the final period with Antti Niemi making 20 saves
in the final period.
