NHL Updates – Washington Capitals finally win after losing 8 straight games, beating the Ottawa Senators 3-2

The 484th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was played at the Scotiabank Place, home of the Ottawa Senators. Pre-match expectations were that the Ottawa Senators would be able to defeat the Washington Capitals
as they had lost the last 8 games in a row. However, the difference in the standings just helped the Capitals. The Capitals are sixth from the top while the Senators are sixth from the bottom. The match was very tight and the Capitals managed to win 3-2 in
the end after falling behind two goals in the first period. This was the 35th game of the season for both sides.
The match was evenly contested right from the start in terms of goal attempts and scoring opportunities. The home team was the first to score in the 8th minute to take the lead. The play that led into the Senators scoring
was absolutely amazing as they combined very well with the final touch coming from Ryan Shannon from a well placed shot.
The home team pressed on after scoring the goal. Though the Washington Capitals showed some resistance, it was of no use as the home team scored once again to double their lead. The goal was scored in the 14th minute
by Chris Kelly.
The period ended with the Ottawa Senators leading 2-0 and they made 9 goal attempts while the Capitals made 8.
The next 20 minutes of play saw the Washington Capitals starting off stronger than their counterparts and they successfully scored in the very first minute to trail by just 1 goal. The goal was scored by Mathieu Perreault from
a decent strike.
The away side scored once again within the next minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Eric Fehr from a spectacular backhand shot that silenced the home fans. The home fans and team was shocked when the Washington Capitals
scored in the 7th minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Mathieu Perreault who bagged his second for the night.
The period ended with the Washington Capitals leading 3-2 as they made 15 goal attempts while the Ottawa Senators made 11.
The final period saw the away side restrict the Senators to almost nothing during the course of the period so they couldn’t score. In fact there were no goals scored in the final period as the Washington Capitals finally won the
game 3-2.
