NHL coaches jobs do you think are on the line in the 2008-2009 season?

What do those coaches need to do a minimum to keep their job?

Who do you think will keep or lose their jobs if they do or don't meet the minimum?

NHL coaches you believe are in the early running for coach of the year even though the season has yet to start??

  1. Keenan

Mike needs to start of strong and not overly p**s off any star players.. I can see Iron Mike being canned.

As for coach of the year way, way to early. Babcock could be in the running. That is for sure

  2. Ted Nolan.

Now, its not because he is not producing with the team because let's face it, the Islanders are not a playoff contention team on paper, especially this season. I say Nolan because of his off-ice supposed relationship with Garth Snow (The GM) and Charles Wang (The owner). Going into the final year of his contract, I can see Nolan being asked to walk due to the fact that he was not yet offered an extension.

Then again, if Nolan will go along with the Islanders rebuilding phase, then this could all change. But, it seems to be Ted' M.O. to sign seasoned veterans that have produced at some time in their careers rather than play the younger kids and give them a significant chance. Due to the fact that the Islanders have to rebuild, this year will be a big year to decide on Nolan.

Other coaches such as Keenan, Hitchcock and any of the new coaches brought in this year will definitely be under the spotlight, but I still think Nolan's job is 100% most definitely on the line this year.

As far as coach of the year, way to early to tell. You could say Babcock, just because he coaches Detroit...just like how Lindy Ruff was with Buffalo back in 05-06/06-07.
