NHL latest, Pittsburgh Penguins register a dominating 6-1 home win against Phoenix Coyotes
Pittsburgh Penguins had the honour of hosting the 491st game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series, as they were up against the Phoenix Coyotes.
The match was attended by around 18,000 fans at the Energy Consol Arena this Monday. The match was a pretty much one sided encounter, as expected and the Penguins managed to win the match 6-1, coming up with a brilliant performance.
This was the 32nd game of the season for the Phoenix Coyotes, while the Pittsburgh Penguins played the 34th game of the season.
The match started very strongly on the offence right from the word go. Neither of the teams was content on keeping the backline strong. All the emphasis and concentration was on scoring and taking the lead and winning the match.
Pittsburgh bagged the first goal of the match to take the lead. The goal was scored from a powerful strike by Kris Letang in the seventh minute. Both teams were very attacking throughout the period. The puck was seen going up and down the pitch, with shots fired from everywhere on the pitch.
It looked as if the Penguins would be leading 1-0 into the break as the period neared its end but they bagged another goal in the final minute to take the score to 2-0. The goal was scored by Evgeni Malkin from a decent strike.
The period ended with the score 2-0 in favour of the Pittsburgh Penguins, as they made 14 goal attempts. The Phoenix Coyotes made 16 goal attempts. Pittsburgh Penguins made a superb start to the second period as they scored in the very first minute. The goal was scored by Evgeni Malkin once again through a well placed shot.
A couple of minutes later, Sidney Crosby also joined the party, as he scored in the third minute to take the score to 4-0. The home team totally dominated the proceedings and in doing so, scored once again in the eighth minute to wrap up the match. The goal was scored by Matt Cooke from a good strike.
The period ended with the Pittsburgh Penguins leading 5-0 as they made 16 goal attempts while the Phoenix Coyotes made five goal attempts.
The final period was not as offensively approached by the Penguins as the previous two periods. This resulted in the Phoenix Coyotes scoring in the ninth minute. The goal was scored by Wojtek Wolski from a decent tip-in shot.
However, Pittsburgh Penguins also scored in the final stages of the match through Chris Conner to win the match 6-1. During the course of the final period, Phoenix Coyotes made six goal attempts, while the Pittsburgh Penguins made nine goal attempts.
