NHL latest – Boston Bruins defeated 1-4 by Washington Capitals

The 72nd game of the NHL preseason that took place in the TD Garden, home of the Boston Bruins saw the home team up against the Washington Capitals. Both teams’ previous encounter resulted in the Washington Capitals beating the Boston Bruins 3-2.
It was no different this time, as the Washington Capital won once again by taking the lead 4-1.
First period – Boston Bruins vs. Washington Capitals
Most of the early part of the first period was dominated by the Boston Bruins who regularly came up with shots on goal. Not only this, they came up with splendid play making but weren’t able to finish the move. Lacking the final touch, they decided to focus
more on their defensive approach to the game.
However, this backfired as the Washington Capitals got confidence from the goal attempts they made. And finally after breaking past the Boston Bruins defence, they scored in the 11th minute with the help of their captain Nicklas Backstorm.
From then onwards, both teams’ defences manage to be outstanding performers. Blocking every shot and stopping from any dangerous play, the teams were able to restrict each other to very less goal attempts.
At the end of the first period, the Washington Capitals were able to come up with 6 shots out of which one was able to find the back of the net. The Boston Bruins were able to make 5 unsuccessful goal attempts.
Second period – Washington Capitals strike again
The second was no different from the first one. But out of the two, the Boston Bruins managed to come up with the tighter defence. They restricted the Washington Capitals to only 4 shots during the course of the period.
The Washington Capitals managed to form a non-porous defence during the early part of the second period but it in the latter stages that Boston Bruins broke past it on a regular basis. 15,000 people who came to witness the game along with the experts thought
that the Boston Bruins would score within the next few minutes.
This was not to be, as the Washington Capitals stunned the home team with a sting shot that went flying past the goalkeeper and took the score to 2-0 in favour of the Washington Capitals. The goal came in the 18th minute of the second period through
Nicklas Backstorm.
The remaining part of the period didn’t see much happening, as teams went in to the third period with the score at 2-0.
Third period – Washington Capitals prevail!
As soon as the third period started, the Boston Bruins were urged by the fans to score. Responding to this, the Boston Bruins were on the offence. The Washington Capitals didn’t back down from the challenge and put step on the gas.
This resulted in the Washington Capitals coming up with fabulous passing and ultimately a goal in the 3rd minute. The goal came through Andrew Gordon and took the score to 3-0. Washington Capitals pressed for another goal to completely shut any
chances of a Boston Bruin’s comeback. They were successful in doing so, as they scored once again in the 7th minute through Matt Bradley.
The Boston Bruins managed to pull one back through Mark Recchi in the ninth minute and cut down the 4-goal deficit to 3. The score at that time was 1-4 against the Boston Bruins and remained the same until the end.
At the end of the period, the Boston Bruins managed to make 11 goal attempts out of which they scored once. On the contrary, the Washington Capitals managed to come up with 14 shots out of which they netted two.
After losing to Washington Capital, Boston Bruins Head Coach said "I still think our effort wasn't a very good effort tonight, and I think they realize it." Boston coach Matt Bradley added, "We're in the stage now where we have really cut down to our team.
Camp is over, let's start working. We have about nine or 10 days here until the real deal starts here and we should use that time to make our team better."
