NHL latest – Florida Panthers win 4-3 against the Buffalo Sabres in a tough encounter
The 507th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was hosted by the Buffalo Sabres as they played host to the Florida Panthers. The match was played at the HSBC Arena this Thursday in front of 19,000 fans. The match turned out to be a very
close battle as expected with the Florida Panthers managing to score the only goal in the final period that proved to be the difference as they won 4-3. This was the 33rd game of the season for Florida Panthers while the Buffalo Sabres played the
35th game of their campaign.
Florida Panthers started the period on a high piling shots after shots from everywhere on the pitch. The home team absolutely had no answer to the strong attacks. They weren’t given any space and time to settle.
On the other hand, Florida Panthers capitalized from the chances they got. They took the lead through Chris Higgins tip in goal 2nd minute. After taking the lead, the away side took the foot off the gas after which the home team made goal attempts
but they couldn’t score.
After the 10th minute of the match, the away side started to attack once again. The away side doubled the lead with another goal in the 13th minute through Stephen Weiss who is in superb form currently.
Florida Panthers wrapped up a dominating performance in the period with their third goal in the 14th minute through Chris Higgins who scored his second for the night. The period ended with the Panthers leading 3-0 heading into the break as they
made 15 goal attempts while the Sabres made 9 goal attempts.
The 2nd period saw the home team with the backing of the home crowd coming out determined to score. Not only did they dominate the possession but they restricted the away side to only 2 goal attempts during the period.
Buffalo Sabres scored in the 6th minute through Jordon Leopold’s flick shot which was followed by another goal in the 9th minute by Jason Pominville that cut the lead to just 1 goal. Buffalo Sabres successfully levelled the score in
the 13th minute through Jordon Leopold scoring the second goal for the night.
Buffalo Sabres continued with the attacks right until the end of the period but none of them proved to fruitful as the period ended with the scores levelled on 3-3. During the 20 minutes of play Buffalo Sabres made 20 goal attempts while the Florida Panthers
made 2 goal attempts.
During the final period, Buffalo Sabres were certainly the stronger team as they made 19 goal attempts and regularly got past the opposing team’s defence. The away side also came up with a decent performance making 12 goal attempts out of which one was converted
into a goal in the 15th minute. The goal was scored by Jason Garrison and proved to be the winner for the Florida Panthers as they won 4-3.
During the course of the match Buffalo Sabres made 48 goal attempts while the Florida Panthers made 29 goal attempts and Chris Higgins was named the star selection of the match scoring 2 goals out of 3 goal attempts.
