NHL not to take over financially troubled New Jersey Devils -NHL offseason Update
It is hard to imagine that a team that had such a successful run not only during the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season but also during the playoffs as they nearly won the Stanley Cup championship could be facing unprecedented financial troubles
for the next hockey year.
Unfortunately, that is the case with 2012 Stanley Cup finalists, New Jersey Devils, who are facing an intense battle of staying alive with mounting debt related issues and the inability to find someone that is willing to invest.
In order to squash recent floating rumours about the major league moving in to settle the crisis by taking over the New Jersey Devils, NHL deputy commissioner, Bill Daly, termed that there are no such plans for the future.
"I don't anticipate either the league having to take over the team, or the team having to file for bankruptcy," Bill Daly told USA TODAY Sports in an email.
New Jersey has been facing financial troubles for the past few seasons but now, they are seriously beginning to affect the team in terms of dealing with offseason situations like signing captain, Zach Parise.
According to such players like Parise, they would love to stay in New Jersey and continue playing but obviously, the financial issues force them to settle for much less than they are actually deserving of.
Similar to the Phoenix Coyotes situation, reports emerged of the NHL taking over New Jersey like they did with Coyotes. The NHL has owned the Coyotes club for the past three seasons and may now be finally selling it off to a new owner like that of former
San Jose Sharks general manager, Greg Jamison, but the league has denied such planning.
"The resolution of Phoenix one way or the other will have no effect of the New Jersey situation," Daly added.
With the next hockey season fast approaching along with the free agency and NHL draft, the New Jersey Devils will have to find a quick fix for their problem as fast as possible in order to avoid any unfavourable situations which could
hurt them next year.
