NHL plans to boost hockey in Columbus, announce 2013 All-Star Game Venue -NHL Update
In a good attempt to boost the sport of ice hockey in the city of Columbus, Ohio, United States, the National Hockey League (NHL) has announced the 2013 NHL All-Star Game to be held at the Nationwide Arena, in an announcement on Saturday, January 28, 2012.
The news came at the perfect time as the 2012 NHL All-Star Game Weekend is underway, raising the anticipation of Columbus fans as this year has so far also been very exciting and thrilling.
Columbus, as seen by many observers, really does deserve a boost as their home team, the Blue Jackets, have not seen much action thus far by still standing at the last spot in the rankings, like last season, along with a number of changes in the coaching
staff and rumours about the team being sold off and even relocated.
Blue Jackets’ general manager, Scott Howson, made the announcement after coming out of a meeting of the NHL Board of Governors in Ottawa, during which he certainly seemed very pleased.
“We haven’t had a lot of good news here since the season started. This is really a nice piece of news for us to start building some momentum,” Howson said Saturday.
NHL commissioner, Gary Bettman, was the one who formally made the announcement, which had Howson’s confirmation add that cherry on the top.
“We’re looking forward to bringing our All-Star celebration to Columbus,” Bettman said. “The Blue Jackets did a great job of hosting the NHL Draft in 2007, and I have no doubt they will raise the bar even higher when they welcome our All-Star celebration
next January.”
Columbus Blue Jackets’ majority owner, John P. McConnell, was also thrilled upon hearing the decision, terming it to be an honour not only for the team but for the city as well which yearns for some high-level hockey action.
Seeing the best of the best the NHL has to offer play next year in Columbus, fans in the city will certainly show their dedication to the sport, which might even have us seeing some new Blue Jackets’ players in the mix when the time comes.
