NHL update – Florida Panthers win 3-0 against the Washington Capitals

Washington Capitals hosted the 414th game of the NHL season this Thursday as the home team was up against the Florida Panthers. It was expected to be a tough encounter, but it turned out to be a one sided game, totally dominated by the Florida
Panthers if we talk about the conversion of chances into goals. This was the 27th game of the season for the Florida Panthers while the Washington Capitals played the 30th game of the season. The match was played at the Verizon Centre
in front of 18,000 fans.
The Florida Panthers made a decent start to the match but it was short lived. The away side couldn’t manage to come up with something really strong that would have enabled them to score. However, after the first few minutes, the home team started to dominate
the game.
The Washington Capitals managed to pile up attacks after attacks and came close to scoring on several occasions but failed to capitalize from any of the chances. The home team backed by the home fans was stronger out of the two teams’ right until the end
of the period after an unstable beginning. The period didn’t see any goals being scored during the 20 minutes of play.
The period ended with the scores deadlocked at 0-0. During this time the Florida Panthers made 6 goal attempts while the Washington Capitals came up with 18 goal attempts.
The 2nd period saw the Washington Capitals continue with the dominating performance on which they ended the last period. The home team almost scored once again in the period but the shots either saw the goalkeeper making brilliant saves or the
shot just went wide off the target.
On the other hand, the end to the period saw the Panthers coming up with some brilliant pieces of play. The home team’s movement was smooth but the Panthers caught them on a counter attack and scored in the final minute of the period. The goal was scored
by Michael Frolik from a superb flick shot.
The period ended with the Panthers leading 1-0 as they made 14 goal attempts while the Washington Capitals made 9 goal attempts.
The final 20 minutes proved to be the most entertaining period of the match. The Florida Panthers and Washington Capitals came up with a battle of the offences. The away side managed to come out on top scoring in the 9th minute to double their
lead. The goal was scored by Steve Bernier from a decent strike.
The Florida Panthers scored once again in the 18th minute to seal the win. The goal was scored by Mike Santorelli from a well placed flick shot. The match ended with the Florida Panthers making 12 goal attempts while the Washington Capitals made
9 goal attempts. Florida Panthers being the productive of the two teams won the match 3-0.
