NHL’s Los Angeles Kings’ star Drew Doughty cleared of rape charges by Prosecutors
Drew Doughty, a star player of Los Angeles Kings’ and last season’s Stanley Cup winning hero, has been cleared of the rape charges, in a report issued on Wednesday. The report was issued by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office according to which
Doughty was cleared because of insufficient evidence found against him.
A 25-year-old woman had accused 22-year-old NHL player of sexually assaulting her as he was drunk. She said that she had s*x with her before and that was with mutual understanding but in March he forced her and raped her.
According to her, she and Doughty did drink with some friends at Sharkeez Bar in Hermosa Beach on 1st March this year. Doughty, then forced her into the cab, took her to his home, forced her to do oral s*x with him and raped her.
She said the reason of Doughty raping her, was the embarrassment of Los Angeles Kings’ player, that was caused because she called him an a**hole when he invited her to go to his home.
Hermosa Beach police sergeant, Bob Higgins, investigated and did not find anything in this matter that could lead to Doughty being charged or punished.
While talking to Press Telegram, Bob Higgins said,
"His story is minus the wrangling and the forcing. It's 'they met in a bar and they partied together, they went to his house and it was a one-night stand kind of thing.'"
Craig Renetsky, Doughty’s attorney, thanked the Hermosa Beach police department for the investigation that began in March. He told, his client is relieved and thankful to them as he said,
"Drew has consistently maintained that the allegations were baseless and unwarranted. Charges were never warranted in this case."
Police reportedly found out mid-way through the case that 25-year-old woman was not on the right side after knowing the punishment that she wants for Doughty. In her opinion, the right punishment for him was that,
“he does not win Stanley Cup”.
London, Ontario born defenseman, had played an important role in Los Angeles Kings Stanley Cup win this year as he scored 10 goals, 26 assists, total 36 points in regular season and scored four goals, 12 assists, total 16 points in playoffs.
