Question:

NHRA changes...?

NHRA anounced that the top fuel classes will no longer run the 1/4 mile (1320 feet), but 1000 feet. This is in response to the tragic death of Scotty Kalitta. How do you feel about this, and how will this affect the sport of drag-racing?

  1. 1000 feet will be marginally safer. The cars will still be going 300mph this will just give them 320 more feet to slow down. I doubt this would have changed the outcome of the recent tragedy.

This is just a temporary measure. NHRA and the pro drivers are getting together to address the safety concerns. After all safety improvements have been made they may go back to the 1320.

I see no reason to run fuel cars farther than 1000 feet, the fans wont know the difference.

  2. No No this is a big mistake. If the race track doesn't have enough room to stop or a wall sticking out in a L shape like Englishmen they shouldn't race there

  3. In my opinion,it will make Top Fuel and Funny Car safer,But I dont like the change. The whole concept of the NHRA is that cars go 1/4 mile and last time i checked 1,000 feet is not 1/4 mile.plus the cars are going to blow up regardless what you do,fatal crashes will happen, and lets face it crashes are a part of racing and will forever be.The NHRA needs to be concerend for the safety of their drivers, but this time they have gone too far.I do say this in respect to scott kalitta's family.
