SERIOUS ANSWERS PLEASE!

I have to get my driver's license renewed, but am not sure which documents I need besides my Birth Certificate and a Utility Bill to prove my Identity.

Since my Birth Certificate is my maiden name, and I kept my ex-husband's last name, do I have to show them the marriage and divorce documents? Where do I get these documents? I lost them when I moved.

We were divorced 12 years ago.

  1. shouldnt need anything to renew they have your info they just need your money

  2. For RENEWING a driver's license without any changes (other than the expiration date), the old license is sufficient to prove identity.  Other documents are needed only for (a) obtaining a new license without an old one to renew, or (b) changing information (for example, if you wanted the renewed license to show a different last name than the original license).

By the way, a birth certificate is not used to prove identity.  A birth certificate is used to prove the citizenship and age of a person identified by other documents.
