This is a Repost, sorry I don't think it posted earlier..

Okay, I've been playing NL Texas Hold Em for a little bit. I'm not great or anything. The question is.. who would have had the best hand in this?

I was playing a cash game we were just doing small buy ins for fun. My hand was J8. The flop was J 7 4. The guy bets, I call. The next card is a Q, and etc. then a K. So, we bet check it the way down. He flips J3. I show J8. It became about a $25 pot. They said it was a split pot because Q and K plays?????????? I thought my 8 kicker would out kick him because I had J J 8 Q K. He would have had J J 7 Q K. This guy was telling me, "oh, if you play your 8, he'll play the K". The best 5 cards, correct? I don't think these people knew wth they were doing. Please, tell me if I'm wrong. Thank you.

  1. Let me get this right,

    your hand: J8

    his hand  :J3

    board: J74KQ

    Your best hand:JJKQ8

his best hand   :JJKQ7 (his kicker does not play)

They are very wrong. You clearly have a higher card than the board, and he does not.  end of story. Sounds like a juicy game though.

  2. You had J8.

    The other guy had J3.

    The board was J 7 4 Q K.

    So you had J J K Q 8

    and he had J J K Q 7

Yep, you won.  And they didn't know what they are talking about.  The best five cards play, and because your 8 beat the board (after the KQ) you win.  If that's now how it went down, you got conned.

  3. The person you played was wrong.

I can get into some poker lingo but i won't, hands down you should have won the hand entirely instead of splitting the pot.

Your opponent was outkicked, end of story

Play that person again, and win their money

    good luck
